X220 Line-Out Selection?

I just got some nice speakers and the instructions say to connect it to line-out, not headphone. Is there a way to make the X220 ouput line-out signal instead of headphone? I can't find any such option in Smart Audio or Windows 7 controls.

In the past with laptops (Dell and Toshiba), I've seen a pop-up that asks if I want the connection to a single jack to be line-out or headphones...none on the X220.

you can't really select it. Typically line out signal is around 80% of the maximum volume of the headphone jack output.

Alternatively, you can get an usb sound card that has digital audio output and coaxial output, which is what i use for my reference valve amp.

There are also expresscard sound cards, if you wish to keep your usb free.
