X220 Microphone Not Working (Never Tried it Before)

I've never tried using my X220 microphone before, but tried Skype today and no-go.  Then updated the driver using Lenovo Update and still nothing. 

Under Control Panel > Sound > Recording, it says "No audio devices are installed".

When I try pressing the Microphone Mute button on the keyboard, it does not light up in the same way that the Speaker Mute button lights up when pressed.

Any ideas or is this clearly a hardware issue requiring a trip to the depot?  :-(

Mod - Please erase.  I took it to a depot near my office.  The microphone wire was not plugged into the motherboard.

Rather than remove the post I've marked it as solved, who knows maybe it helps someone else?

My microphone works but the mic mute button doesnt work at all.

I got it working. I disabled the mic. Rebooted, then re-enabled it and now the button works.
