What would you guys recommend to do? I have heard that you can purchase 2.5" SDD drives and take off the enclosure and still make them fit.

Any 7mm thick SSD would work.
However you might want to avoid the Crucial M4, especially the 256GB and the 512GB versions, as they tend to have a higher failure rate.
I would recommend the Intel 520 series, 330 series, and the Samsung 830 series. Plextor M3P might work as well. Stay away from SandForce based models other than the ones from Intel.

I am running an Intel 520 series 180GB model, which is 7mm thick when you remove the spacer.
Works great and extremely fast!

I am going with the 256 GB Samsung 830 MZ! Should be a beast.
