Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Maybe try using a Windows power plan instead of Power Manager.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Why did you merge this in that thread when I already posted that using a 90W adapter doesn't fix the problem.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

It makes no sense that this thread was merged into the 90w adapter discussion - they have nothing to do with one another, as the original poster described...

Mod, can you please revive this thread or demerge it, or please explain why it was merged (eg is there a solution to this big issue)?

Many thanks,

Petrov.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Incidentally, I have tried disabled individually and collectively, the CPU SpeedStep option and CPU Power Management options in the x220's bios (1.11). Neither individually nor together did it make any difference on the forced and semi-permanent throttling of the i7 in the x220 down to 800mhz.

Just to reiterate, this is with BOTH the AC and battery plugged in (65W AC), and has a hugely negative impact on the user experience. The throttling does not go back up above 800mhz even when the applications are stopped nor on a soft reboot - only a cold reboot works to rethrottle (until you try running any load on the cpu again!).

Disaster.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Is it throttling because it's hot?

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Er, hang on.  So you're experiencing throttling which doesn't go away after a couple of seconds?  Mine will very occasionally dip to 800 MHz (which is still bizarre as my machine is staying below 80C), but it quickly returns to regular voltage following that.  I had originally thought you were saying that is what you were experiencing, but if yours remains at 800MHz for a while, I think you've possibly got bigger problems.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Yep--but in spite of all that, mine STILL repeatedly throttles, and there is no apparent reason for it.  The temperatures are perfectly fine (65-70C) and the fan is running full-speed via TPFanControl to keep it that way.  This is yet another issue which seriously needs addressing.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

That's right - my throttling doesn't go away - even a reboot doesn't fix it. Only a complete shut down and cold boot. Further, the throttling kicks in even when the temps are fine (below 80C) and goes straight to 800mhz from 3.2ghz, with no throttling in between!

this thread was never moved or merged.   an individual post within this thread was split out and merged into an existing discussion.   i deleted the automatic placeholder since it was causing confusion for the group.

Re: X220 cpu throttling problem

Thanks erik - do you know why none of the Lenovo staff members haven't responded to this issue even to say they're aware of it but don't have a solution (or if there is a solution, to suggest it)?

Thanks for your help!

Petrov.
