X220 cpu throttling problem

Note that he said he's using 40Y7659, which is the full size 90W adapter. The trackpad issues have been with the slim 90W adapter.

Let me get back to you on that.  I actually hate trackpads so it has been disabled in bios since day 1.  The trackpoint works 100% fine though, if that helps.

I've disabled mine on the first startup, I just love the trackpoint to death... I actually like the way it's done, with no buttons, so they dont snag or anything on the bottom.

That was an issue with the X120 (which I recently sold without losing much on it) the buttons were so flimsy and right at the edge even when screen was closed.

FWIW, I'm not seeing any CPU throttling issues. For example, while powered by the standard 65W AC adapter (with battery installed), I ran a video encoding job that pounded all 4 threads on the 2 cores at about 95% utilization for a period of almost 30 minutes, and for the vast majority of the time the CPU was running at 32x multiplier (3.2 GHz), ever so often dropping briefly to 30x or 31x then right back up to 32x (as reported by CPU-Z).

I hate to sound rude, but folks, before you chime in and say you don't see in any throttling, please take the time to research what we're actually talking about here.

JNavas, in order to give you a more detailed answer:

You WILL have throtteling with the 65W adapter, as it appears in EVERY unit. It's not a case were some have it and some don't. But if you would have taken five minutes to read a few posts in this thread and maybe another five to understand the problem you would have seen, that the throtteling occurs when both, the CPU and GPU are stressed. NO ONE sees the kind of throtteling we are talking about in this thread when only stressing the CPU. Furthermore, as has been stated dozens of times CPU-Z is NOT sufficient to show the problem as it simply often does not register correctly the CPU speeds when they change fast.

So, you want to see throtteling? Get HWINFO, do something that stresses the CPU AND THE GPU to the maximum and you will IMMEDIATELY see throtteling of both, the CPU and the GPU to the lowest speeds.

I hope Lenovo will provide each X220 owner with a 90W adapter for free, if this will be the only solution to prevent CPU throttling ...

In my opinion that would not be enough.  They would not just need to provide one adapter, but rather, replace every adapter each user has purchased which was marked compatible with the system but which was clearly not.
