Re: X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

Hi: (From the north of Spain) I have again my x220, less than a week to repair it. These are the good news. I can't understand how in a country that is in the acronym P.I.G.S. the servicing is so quick and without shortage problems. I'm becaming paranoid. The bad news are that, this time, the technicians forgot to connect the loudspeakers. The sound works with wired headset but not through the speakers. I'm very angry, three motherboards and this issue are more than enough. RECALL. Regards.

Re: X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

Hey guys just thought I would throw in my $0.02. I am actually experiencing the exact same issue with (4) X220's purchased in December 2011. They all are dead due to bad system boards and Lenovo has been anything other than forthcoming about this issue nor have they been helpful in resolving it. The serial number are all also R9-HXXXX. I have 4 open cases with them and they have all been escalated due to how long they are taking to get the parts in. It seems having a 3 year warranty with on site and accidental protection means nothing when Lenovo can't keep the parts in stock or ship them from China any other way than by boat. As of today the boat that was supposed to come last Friday never showed up so it looks like March 1st is the next earliest time to get the new boards in. Mark do you have any more information about this problem and if they are going to be doing a recall?

I've had the same issue. They've had my machine over four weeks now... and the last date they told me was that the motherboards would be coming in on the 28th... but it sounds like you have more updated info. :smileysad:

This seems to be a major issue, and my thinkpad is my main computer (I'm a student)... so I'm pretty upset at how unrepsonsive and irresponsible Lenovo has been.

@bendispo

Yeah this is a major issue and Lenovo couldn’t care less. They have been trying to use the excuse that the motherboards are on their way from China via boat which is ridiculous. Last time I checked FedEx picks up in China and since that would be infinitely faster than boat since they could be in the US in 1 business day. Either they have no idea what they are doing or they don’t want to spend the extra money on shipping to fulfill the customer’s needs. I am not a student but I feel your pain. I am in corporate IT and we recently purchased six figures worth of Lenovo computers and that apparently doesn’t even get you decent support. I have had my cases escalated multiple times and all of the reps have the exact same answer; we don’t have the motherboards in stock and we don’t know where they are or when they are coming in. I am really starting to regret switching over to Lenovo…

Not sure what is going on with my X220, when I plug in a USB into one of the left two USBs, the laptop totally shuts down.  The power button slowly flashes and the fingerprint reader flashes.   I should add only if (on either port) I attempt to plug in a USB connector - and when I notice I need to turn the plug over (I realize the plug is upside down) then it crashes the laptop.  Now I have reached over to plug in USB connectors in various PCs since the advent of USBs and this is the only machine that shuts down.  Lenovo thinks it is a bad motherboard.  Faulty circuitry.  Guess we will see as I have a new motherboard being put in tomorrow.  Originally on Sunday Lenovo call center said the MB was back ordered but on Wednesday I got a call from the onsite service technician saying he would be out Thursday to replace the MB.  Not a bid delay and I am staying away from my USB ports until the change of MBs.

BTW, before a new MB goes in - are there any things I should do to make a good transition (will my fingerprint reader still work with a new MB, or any other issues anyone has experienced)?

Hi:

If they change just your mother board, you will have all your data and configurations untouched. As I said before, they change the mother board of my laptop three times and everything was untouched.

Re: X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

I thought I read on a different thread that some security features might be effected by a new MB - such as the fingerprint reader or anything else that might be related to something on the MB.  Not sure I want to use your 3 failing experiences as my guide.  Isn't the security chip on the MB - if I get a new MB seems like something might be effected.  Again, I am not sure but having just installed an SSD, I know its better to ask questions before, rather than after.

Pretty sure you will want a new thread for your issue/question as your issue is different than what is being describe by he OP and others in this thread.

With that said you will always want to have your data backed up before being serviced. You yourself can only annswer if you have used any security below the OS level. Fingerprint software at large is just OS security which should not be modify by MB change but it still depends on how you have setup/used it. If you have read on another thread that the MB replacement has caused issue, perhaps you should persude the question in that thread as people with that experience is better to help you.

If I could remember where that thread was and in what month of 2011 I read it, I would do that but thanks for the advice anyway.  Looks like I won't have an issue.
