X220 on a Mini Dock Plus Series 3, unable to use eSata port

Question

When trying to use the eSATA Port on my Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with X220 (4290-W1B). According to the users manual it should work and there should be an option for enabling/disabling the eSata Port in BIOS->Security->I/O Port Access. But neither is! Could the dock be defective?

Solution:

1. Step: Turn on HDD/Ultrabay option in BIOS

2. Step: Use an external HDD with separate power supply, as the eSata port on the Dock is not powered.
