I don't understand why an X220 with the optional WWAN module will be better to plug an mSATA SSD ?
I have a X220 i7 with WWAN module and i think i will have to remove it because i want to get a mSATA SSD. my BIOS is 1.17 but i don't need eGPU so i think i will take the 1.21 BIOS and take one of theses :
- Intel 310 - 80GB mSata
- Intel 310 - 40GB mSata
- MyDigitalSSD - 128GB mSata

???
There is no DVD drive in the X220.
There is a 2.5" slot SATA, but be carreful, the 9mm drive can't go inside, you must use 7.5mm, like the Intel 320 SSD who is in my X220.
If anyone can give me tips about how get the windows 7 system from the standard Sata SSD to the new mSATA SSD once it is inside the X220, it could be great for me. The 2.5" SSD will be only for datas.
Thanks you in advance !

I have now the 1.21 bios, and installed a SSD mSATA intel 310 in my Lenovo X220. I can see it in the bios and in windows when i check the system properties, but i can't see it in the windows explorer so i can use it to put data.
I tried to change in the bios from standard to UEFI (is it the solution to acces to the mSATA drive ?) but after the PC can't start, it stop on a page with the choice beetween the mSATA SSD and the main standard SATA drive. So i return to standard boot instead of UEFI and windows start but still don't see the mSATA drive.
Any idea to help me ?
Thanks

Run "Disk Management" to initialize, partition, and format the drive.

Should this work for the x220 tablet? I tried to install a sandisk p4 64g tonight, and I get error 2101 detection error on hdd2. I know the drive is good.. It works in my ep121.
Im on bios 1.22 and laptop is 4294cto

Actually,
I had an intel 310 on hand, and it does work in the x220t.
So, I guess the question should be, why doesn' t the sandisk work, and is there any chance a future update will let it work? I've tried it in a few other machines and it works in everything else!
Thanks

Just a quick note on the 2.5" drive. I have a WDC 1TB 9mm drive installed in my X220T (Model 4294CTO i7-2640M). It doesn't go in easily so you have to back off some of the screws around the bay then tighten them up. I've been running it for 3 months now without any issues. The 5400rpm sucks but I am installing a Crucial 260GB mSATA so the HDD will just be for storage.
Has anyone run Crucial SSD's in the X220 or X220T?
Cheers

The Crucial mSATA works fine, but it is a 256.

Hello,
No problems noted using a 7mm high Crucial m4 512GB SSD in my i7/USB 3.0 X220 as a data drive.
