Good to see Apple pushing the industry in the right direction, as usual.
Usual ? IBM already had R50p with 15" 2048x1536 IPS screen many years ago. Lenovo could just re-learn old things. Lenovo have already copied the crappy Apple keyboard style, next time they can try to adopt something good from them (16:10 display ratio, better display resolution)

Even company like Asus can deliver 13.3" notebook with custom 1920x1080 IPS panel. The LCD technology is already well developed, you don't need any further research. As for keyboards, the Lenovo resources had been wasted badly to replace the unique superior ThinkPad keyboard with a generic uniform crap.

Agree with Puppy here, there's no need to build a new fab, this isn't exactly cutting edge stuff. Even Apple, with $100 bln cash in the bank buys its panels from Samsung, Sharp and LG.
There must be a secret deal among notebook vendors (except Apple) that they will not make anything exceptional and innovative. X220/X230 12.5" 1366x768 IPS panel is also a custom panel. Lenovo could order a 12" 1400x1050 as well, if they wanted.
This year it would be 20th ThinkPad anniversary. Sadly, this year is also end of classic ThinkPad Lenovo could build a new "retro" model on something like X60 casing wth up to date components and 12" 1400x1050 IPS panel. I bet it would be a killer. And it does not need any research. Another example, Fuji is successfull with X series retro-design hi-end digital cameras. Just use design that have been proven as very ergonomic. Lenovo already had it and threw it away.

Lenovo, are you paying attention? 1920x1080 IPS on a 11.6" screen...HELLO???

No. They won't. In the Philippines the unit that they will be releasing has the i5 3210M ivy bridge processor. The keyboard by the way has no back-lighting and the screen is not IPS (compared to the X220 I got from the States that HAS the IPS). Basically most of the bells and whistles are still there at PhP62000.00
