X41 Charging Issues? Shuts off when power cable unplugged, doesn't charge battery

Hi,

I dug up my trusty X41 from back in the day, and realized it won't charge. Lenovo replaced the motherboard / harddrive / screen under warranty a couple years ago, and I haven't really used it since.

I found it would die when unplugged, so I thought the battery was dead. I purchased a replacement battery, but get the same problem.

I've babied this machine since I purchased it new back in 2007.

I have a T420 from work, so I'm not in a rush to fix my X41 - but it's annoying that it doesn't seem to work properly with all these new parts and so little use. My IT staff is pondering a swtich to HP machines, which I've opposed in the past, but starting to have doubts.

I'd appreciate any advice if you've seen similar issues. Thanks for your help!

Re: X41 Charging Issues? Shuts off when power cable unplugged, doesn't charge battery

hey harveyxiao,

it is a high possibility that the metal terminal of the X41 might be damage, therefore even if you're using a new battery; you will still need to have a direct power supply to the unit.

curiously enough, when you have the power supply connected and the battery pack inserted, at the windows taskbar at the right hand corner, does it show that it is charging ?
