Re: X61 Max RAM Capacity

Hi chimeradog, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

You're good up to 8GB. I have 4GB in my X61. To use more than ~3GB you will need a 64-bit version of your OS. I recommend Windows 7 64-bit.

Hope this helps!

Re: X61 Max RAM Capacity

Yes, no, maybe; it depends.

Yes:
The Intel graphics adapter or BIOS doesn't reserve any part of the 4GB, which leaves all 4GB exposed and addressable by the 32-bit OS.

No:
The Intel graphics adapter or BIOS chooses to reserve a chunk of 512MB from the RAM, leaving you with 3.5GB usable. Or 1GB, which leaves 3GB.

Maybe:
There exists a patch called ReadyFor4GB from the Internet which enables the use of up to 128GB of RAM under a 32-bit Vista or 7. It may or may not work properly, and is confirmed to break XP Mode on Windows 7.

Re: X61 Max RAM Capacity

To All,

Please refer to: http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/28117

I previously had a X61, which failed to recognize 8GB of RAM. The maximum I can use is 4GB. Please verify that you could add 8GB to it.

Re: X61 Max RAM Capacity

My X61t, X61, X61s all worked fine with the 8 gigs ram max. As said have a try, it may or may not work (but mostly it will).
