X61 - Tiny plastic piece fell off

[ Edited ]

The problem is that the small plastic piece, located on the LAN port, on the left LED broke off when I removed the LAN cable. It's just on the side, protruding outwards a few millimeters.

I don't know if this actually qualifies for servicing under the warranty, as the computer runs along fine. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Okay, I realize that this is probably sounds like some bad joke or et cetera, but I'm really irritated at the fact that apparently something can and will break on this X61. I mean, these things are supposed to be tough. Not flimsy and fragile like the Macbooks. I have a X31, and stuff like this doesn't happen, neither does this happen on my old HP.

And I had this laptop for approximately three months...

have you call support yet??? give them a call. I don't know about X61, but my X60 is every bit as strong as the X31 i got. Everything will break no matter how well built or how strong, this is one reason why there is warranty for laptops.

Yeah. Apparently Customer Support said if 'it works but I'm so anxious about it' I might as well bring it to the Service Center.

Also, strangely enough, I asked them to confirm with me the expiration of my warranty, and it turns out Lenovo website is wrong? My 'actual' warranty seems to expire one month after the one listed on the website...

I don't think it's worth hauling my butt to the service center to have them take a look at a small piece of broken plastic that would probably draw shrugs anyway.

However, if the LED falls out or something cataclysmic of the sort I figure it'd be worth the time to do so...

Thoughts?

Re: X61 - Tiny plastic piece fell off

i think you should get it fixed if it is indeed broken. Lenovo warranty starts the day the laptop is shipped out to you, an old vestige of the IBM Thinkpad warranty system. You can reset it by providing a sale docket, if you got it from a store, by calling Lenovo support and then telling them to reset the warranty date, then fax in a copy of the purchase receipt with date on it.

Okay. Should I bring the broken piece too? It's less than 2 centimeters in length.

It also happened to me, but the LAN connectino works fine. but it's seems odd to send the laptop to repair for this.

Some people like everything perfect, it is really a matter of personal taste. Everyone has their own standards regarding what constitutes a faulty part.
