Here's what I did now.
Took some duct tape, sticked it inside the hole, pressed the corner of the lid so that glue from the tape transfers to plastic. After that, I took the tape out, pressed the corner again and waited like that 10 seconds and now it's all good!
Wow, that was so simple.

mine appears to be loose/broken after only 2 weeks of use. I know this is only cosmetics but I'm very dissapointed. Hopefully its warranty covered.
My suggestion - stick to old IBM design, if it ain't broken don't fix it. What was wrong with older one-piece lids?
ps. what is the widescreen all about? business laptop --> documents = 4:3, entertainment laptop --> movies/games = 16:9. And not that there is no space for standard display - bezel on the bottom and top look oversized. I feel robbed of the screen space.

Just received call back from lenovo and apparently this type of damage is not warranty covered. I received extortionate quote (£400+).
Laptop is 2 weeks old and I'm not even sure if this was like that since it arrived. Obviously customer services assumed I broke it. This is NOT the type of customer service I received with my IBM Thinkpads.
Lenovo - you bought amazing brand, your poor engineering made it worse, you charge a lot and you don't provide value for money.
After x20, x40, x60s and few of T series, X220 will be certainly the last thinkpad I own. Thank you very much.

I had a look inside and the thin plastic stripe on the top of the lid is attached with two pins sticking out of the larger rubberized part. In mine one of those pins has snapped. No idea how it's happened but these pins look quite feeble to me...
what I meant by older design was one piece lid like in x60 and T60 (and infact new T420).
I was looking for reason of this new design and its apparently to improve wireless signal. Seems that only X series needs such improvement as lid in new T420's remains in one piece
