x200 fan constantly running?

I just got my x200 thinkpad about a week ago. I've noticed that the fan is constantly on. I will boot up my computer and maybe 3 min after boot up, the fan will go off and stay on the entire time. Is this normal? Having the fan on causes the laptop to be loud and I do not want that. Anyone have any experience with this? Any solution to this problem? Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

On Power Management, when CPU is not set to the least, you can set the machine to "dynamically reduce fan noise". That doesn't solve most of the problem, but might alleviate some.

I'm also strongly looking forward to an official improvement over the annoying fan noise, particularly for a machine like X200 that boasts quietness.

Re: x200 fan constantly running?

Interesting. I have a x200 and its the quietest PC I've ever had... all the way back to my PC Limited 8086 :smileyhappy:

And I'm running Win 7 x64... the power management program needs updating, but the machine is still very quiet.

The fan of X200 is quiet, but still feel it's on more than necessary, and there is no easy setting that would restrict its function effectively. I'm running Vista Home Basic.

Re: x200 fan constantly running?

Yes, It's the same with my X200. And I find this is the case only when using Wi-Fi. If I turn it off, the fan is quiet.

You can try it. Good luck.

This may be a bug of the fan control program or the wireless card driver. It's really borning.

Re: x200 fan constantly running?

are you using access connection by any chance? i never liked it myself and uninstalled it when i first bought my x200 after a few days but i just installed it back on today (5.12a) to check it out now. i noticed a significant inscrease in fan noise after booting up and using windows for awhile. removing it got rid of the fan noise and now its back down to where it use to be. you might want to give it a shot. are you using power manager too? i am on the energy star profile and its nearly dead slient like it always has been.

Re: x200 fan constantly running?

X200 7454

With Active Connection, turning wireless off reduces fan noise.
Without Active Connection, wireless status doesn't make much difference, all much quieter!

If more could confirm the phenomena, we should probably bring it to the ThinkVantage developer's attention.

Re: x200 fan constantly running?

I have the same problem. Is there any other solution available other than "turning off the wifi" (which actually renders my laptop rather useless...). Isn't there a patch or something?
