I just got my x200 thinkpad about a week ago. I've noticed that the fan is constantly on. I will boot up my computer and maybe 3 min after boot up, the fan will go off and stay on the entire time. Is this normal? Having the fan on causes the laptop to be loud and I do not want that. Anyone have any experience with this? Any solution to this problem? Any advice or help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Interesting. I have a x200 and its the quietest PC I've ever had... all the way back to my PC Limited 8086 ![]()
And I'm running Win 7 x64... the power management program needs updating, but the machine is still very quiet.

Yes, It's the same with my X200. And I find this is the case only when using Wi-Fi. If I turn it off, the fan is quiet.
You can try it. Good luck.
This may be a bug of the fan control program or the wireless card driver. It's really borning.

are you using access connection by any chance? i never liked it myself and uninstalled it when i first bought my x200 after a few days but i just installed it back on today (5.12a) to check it out now. i noticed a significant inscrease in fan noise after booting up and using windows for awhile. removing it got rid of the fan noise and now its back down to where it use to be. you might want to give it a shot. are you using power manager too? i am on the energy star profile and its nearly dead slient like it always has been.

I have the same problem. Is there any other solution available other than "turning off the wifi" (which actually renders my laptop rather useless...). Isn't there a patch or something?
