x201 problems with ultrabase dock after hibernate

[ Edited ]

Hi guys,

My shiny new x201 is acting strangely after I connect it to the ultrabase. It does not recognize my monitor (displayport2displayport direct cable) nor any USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse...).

If I reboot it _while_ on ultrabase, everything works as it should.

So, from standby, hibernate or while turned on, nothing happens. After a reboot everything is OK. One of the reasons I bought an ultrabase is the ability to connect to mon/keyb/mouse/printer on the fly.

Instead of preinstalled W7/32bit I had to install W7/64bit since I have more than 3GB of RAM (8GB exactly). Everything else works perfectly.

Can anyone help, did you encounter a similar problem ?

Thanks in advance

Marko

[update] I have two ultrabases, and have tried them both, same thing...

Re: x201 problems with ultrabase dock after hibernate

@msav,

Try upgrading the BIOS and see if it helps. Do ensure that you cold boot the laptop before flashing the BIOS.

Re: x201 problems with ultrabase dock after hibernate

[ Edited ]

Thanks JameZ,

I already did that earlier. In the meantime I realized that everything eventually starts working but _only_ after I:

1. Open the screen lid (while on dock)

2. Log in on the notebook keyboard

3. Wait for a couple of mins.

4. Switch monitor to clone mode (Win-P)

5. Switch monitor to Projector only (if I skip 4. it starts flickering)

6. Close the lid (set as do nothing when i close the lid while on AC power).

So, the USBs do not work unless I login on the notebook itself (integrated keyboard) and ... well wait.

Strange...

Re: x201 problems with ultrabase dock after hibernate

@msav,

Kindly try to use Fn + F7 to switch display while on dock to projector mode and see if it helps.

Also before you dock, the laptop is in sleep or is it when booting up or it is already turn on?

Re: x201 problems with ultrabase dock after hibernate

@JameZ

So after a couple of weeks here are my conclusions:

  • Fn+F7 and Win-P act the same
  • It does not matter if the notebook is in sleep or hibernate mode when docked, the problems appear
  • If it is booting up on the dock, everything loads up normally
  • If I open up the lid and enter the username on the x201 keyboard and than wait for a couple of mins, the USP peripherals connect
  • then i power up the external monitor
  • Then with Win-P go to clone mode
  • Then with Win-P go to projector mode
  • Everything works ok
  • Any other situation, the monitor flickers

Re: x201 problems with ultrabase dock after hibernate

@msav.

Do try running TVSU and see if you have all drivers installed and updated to their latest patches available now. If problem still persist despite the update then I would recommend to check it via service centers.
