Re: x201 random shutdown...

Hi sterluan,

The current latest BIOS is 1.22 - released 9th Sep 2010.

Power manager version latest is 3.30 - released 31st Aug 2010.

Could you update the BIOS and the drivers as well? You may use ThinkVantage System Update.

Also before updating the BIOS do ensure you do a cold boot before doing a BIOS update and make sure the AC and Batt are plugged in before doing so.

Also the 2 x 2GB ram is default Lenovo RAM or is it a 3rd party RAM which you add it yourself?

Re: x201 random shutdown...

Hi sterluan,

Could you let me know the version of BIOS and Power Manager? You can obtain that information by using Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox.

Re: x201 random shutdown...

Hi sterluan,

Since you have just updated the BIOS and Power Manager, please let me know if the random shutdown issue still occur.

Also you could try reseating the RAMs as well.

Re: x201 random shutdown...

Hello,

I have also recently updated the latest BIOS, but I've just encountered a random shut down again today....

Any other possibility as to why this happens on X201?

Thanks!

Re: x201 random shutdown...

Hi peterh_hk,

If you already have the latest BIOS and done a ThinkVantage system update to update all your drivers to the latest version.

Do check if you have any 3rd party RAMs installed, if you do, try to remove them and see if the random shut down is still happening. Also did you get the random shut down when you first got the X201?

Re: x201 random shutdown...

Hello Jame Z,

I have only been using my X201 for 3 months from the time I got it from Lenovo.

The only hardware change I made was a new SSD hard driver installed.

How do I check for the 3rd party RAM, and how would I be able to remove it? (can you provide me more info on that?)

By the way, I have used ThinkVantage Toolbox to check for the reasons of system crash, and it shows "no information available"

Thanks!
