x220 + External graphics card compatibility

Hello, I have a x220 and wish to find out if it's 54mm express slot is compatible with ViDock4 or similar External Graphics Card interfaces connected to a GTX470 or higher graphics card.

There have been reported issues from other laptop manufacturers indicating that problems will arise if insufficient memory (~less than 256MB) is allocated to the PCIe bus. It would be crucially helpful to know whether any of the above mentioned memory restrictions have been imposed on my model.

If not, what are your good and bad experiences with an external graphics solution.

Cheers,

Kevin

Re: x220 + External graphics card compatibility

I think it should be, there are forum posts on this (on a X201). However, know that a GTX460 saturates the bandwidth available on that slot. Using a GTX470 and higher graphics card is just purely a waste.
