x220 set up and initial testing

I will soon receive my new X220 (core i5-2520M, 1x4GB, 320/5400 HDD, webcam, 6-cell; running Win7 Pro 64-bit). Would appreciate advice re optimal set-up and what testing/diagnostics to do to determine if there are any problems. All this with an eye to replacing the slow HDD soon with an SSD, probably the Samsung 830. For example, I now have a T40 with XP SP3, with my services optimized for low-overhead per Black Viper, etc.
