Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

As i have said if you believe it is manufacturing defect and you can argue your case, then you could try to escalate the case. But the odds of you getting a free repair is very slim.

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

Interestingly enough I have something similar happening to me on my x201s. First a bright spot appeared in the middle of the screen and now something dark similar to the one presented on the post (a little lighter though) is appearing too. http://picasaweb.google.com/josibarns/X201sScreenIssue?authkey=Gv1sRgCP_9p8ic-bOe1AE# I feel that my screen is falling apart as if my computer was 4 years old (it's only 6 month old and the issue appeared after 2 months) I haven't had time to send it back yet because I use it everyday, but I'm afraid to face the same response from Lenovo. Needless to say it's never been dropped or anything, It's a brand new computer...

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

the light spot means there is a pressure spot behind the LCD. This should be replaceable under warranty.

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

I have an X300 and I had two problems with the screen:

- Cracked screen bezel in the bottom right hand side corner. I think it's related to the opening mechanism and pressures over time.

- Bright white spots on the screen which appeared to be dead LED's!!

Initially, Lenovo Australia didn't want to cover the issues but a few phone calls, "diplomatic" discussions and then escalation, they sent someone on site to replace the bezel and LCD screen!

I've had the X300 for over a year now and you can read about my experiences with the machine here: http://ontargetreviews.blogspot.com/2010/10/is-lenovo-x300-worth-it.html

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

@mazenn that is certainly not a good experience with the Lenovo Thinkpad Halo product. But your case is quite isolated, otherwise you would hear more reports of these.

I have a X301 and the quality is quite amazing, better than most Thinkpads of the recent years, but given how much their RRP is, i guess you wouldn't want an Acer like quality.

When did you get the repair done? This year or start of last year?

Regards,

Jin Li

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

I have taken apart a Thinkpad 240 a few times for such things as eraser head & keyboard fixes, screen fixes, and speaker replacement. From, what I know about that, and thinking of the thin nature of the x300. My thoughts are that a do it yourself repair would result in some part of the covering like the screen bezel or some other thing that clips covers together breaking without detailed instructions. It might not be critical what would break. There maybe some magic tool to take it apart. Do not forget that you have to keep track of all those different size screws.

Now that I think about. $225+$65 does not sound like a bad deal unless something else is broken. Think about it. You get a brand new screen. Looks like a nice resolution 13.3-inch WXGA+ (1440 x 900 resolution) TFT display. Wow.

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

The repairs were done this morning!! A Lenovo techie came on site and replaced the bezel and screen.

Pls don't get me wrong I love the X300. I agree with your point about the RRP.

Re: x300 / crack in screen / no warranty ?

I just got a Lenovo Think Pad Edge in Sept,  The screen crack for no reason as well, I left it on the table, close the cover and two hours later when I try using it, There is a leaf shape internal crack at the lower left corner, near where the cooling fan exhaust is.

When I sent it in, the quote for repair is close to S$600/-

If I drop it or put any pressure on it, I would pay for it, not when it is Product defect.

How to have faith in Lenovo when they don't even replace for their defect?????

I have the same problem. Also closed the laptop and had cracks in the LCD panel the next day. Lenovo Hong Kong doesn't want to pay the repair although I still have warranty.
This is my post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Cracked-LCD-Screen-Thinkpad-X200/m-p/323981
Needless to say, that I am very disappointed by Lenovo...
