Question
My ThinkPad G40 displayed a Windows screen and refused to boot beyond that. I did a check with PC Doctor, and got a message that the laptop has a 'Linear Verify Failure' on a small part of the hard disk. There appears to be nothing else wrong with the machine.
I tried to restore the laptop to factory settings but in turn received a 'Write Failure to Drive D' error message. I then tried removing the hard disk password but to no avail.
Answer
The system likely needs a replacement hard drive. Most PATA/IDE 9.5 mm hard drives should work.
