Releasing internal shared storage

Hi,

I have a Lenovo A5 (L18021) with Android v8.1.0 (2018-10-05), Kernel 4.4.95+.

It has 16GB internal shared storage and I added a 15GB SD card which is formatted as internal storage.

I am running into storage space issues on the internal shared storage.

I have read some topics about the storage problems about the A series.

From that I understand that even though I have a properly formatted SD card, apps might still not be able to use it.

I am currently trying to clean up as much as I can on my internal shared storage, so that the system has enough space.

I uninstalled almost all apps and deleted all media (pictures, videos, music).

For deleting media, I even went through the (sub)directories of the internal shared storage (some media is not indexed).

But still, I almost reach 16GB:

- 6GB System (is this normal?)

- 4.4GB Photos/Videos (I can't find them, where are they??)

- 3.8 GB Other Apps (I only have very few apps left, and the cleanup tool says they together make up only a few hundred MB)

I attached screenshots of my storage, internal storage, and file browser below.

A last resort would be to reset the phone.

But will this really help or is it normal the a more or less empty Android with all its required apps takes up around 16GB?

Best

Marc

Re: Releasing internal shared storage

Hi Marc_,

Can you quickly remove SD card from your device and force reboot your device. Let us know if that refreshes the storage?

Thanks,

Swaraj

Re: Releasing internal shared storage

Thanks for the answer.

Wouldn't that corrupt the file system?

The SD card is formatted as internal storage, the 16GB that I am trying to release are on the internal shared storage (not the SD card).

I will try this out on the weekend when I have time to deal with a possible factory reset.

Best

Marc

Thanks for reverting, I don't think this would corrupt any System file though. Just make sure you format the SD card from Internal storage and remove before trying the above steps. However, as far as I understand—you have already removed the Music/Videos on the device which is still showing due to glitch/cache possibly. Let us see how it goes, keep us posted?

Re: Releasing internal shared storage

Hi,

as you said I switched off the phone, removed the SD card, then booted.

The SD card is correctly noted as missing, but the internal shared storage is still full.

So this didn't seem to work.

Thanks for testing! Appreciate your efforts. Our best bet would be to perform Factory Data Reset without restoring any apps and observe. Hope this helps!
