Navigon GPS APP = supported screen resolution 480 X 854

2011-03-13, 17:22 PM

I am interested in the Navigon navigation app for Android as it stores the map data on the phone, and uses NavTech maps (much more accurate addresses from NavTech than Google or TeleAtlas maps in my geography)

There is little customer support informatio on the Navigon site.  It does mention that the resolutions supported include 480 X 854- but no mention of the Atrix 540 X 960 resolution (not dsurprising I suppose).

Would you thin this App would not function on the Atrix?  Or would it likely display, but not fully fill - the Atrix screen?

The Android Marketplace has a 15 minute return policy, so it should be easy to find out and get a refund if it doesn't work.

Go to their facebook page to address your issue.  I have the iPhone version and they do support the retina display.

bart,

Does the Navigon display fill your screen or do you get "black bars" around the edges?

Does it look ok / function correctly?

Thanks

15 minutes isn't enough (or may not be) because the Navigon app requires a 2 GB download (for the maps) and their server is not exactly speedy. I do use this app (on another phone) and like it. They have made some improvements since it's first release for Android. If you keep an eye on the market they often make it available at a discount.

No black bars, it fills the screen completely. Everything works as advertised as far as I can tell after using it for one day, including traffic information. Obtaining a GPS fix is pretty darned fast too on this device.

Calculating three alternative routes from Brussels to Rome (I'm in Europe) takes less than 10 seconds. It's a bit of a battery vampire: it sucks even more juice than the display. But that's not really a surprise. It doesn't run hot though. Keep your charger handy if you need to navigate for more than an hour.

The only thing they could (should) improve is the graphics (A bit course compared to other navigators. The font on the map view is practically unreadable). But that has nothing to do with the Atrix. What else can I say? My wife likes it and that's good enough for me.

Oh, and Motorola, if you're listening: Blur is costing you market share! Your hardware is great, but your software is preventing it from shining. Just compare the user experience of the Atrix with the Galaxy S for instance. The S is 2010 technology, but the stock Android experience is much smoother. How is that possible?? I have an idea: kill Blur. You save money and we get a better experience. How about that? (Sorry, rant over).
