Outlook 2003 calendar sync issue

2011-08-16, 15:44 PM

If I create calendar items on my PC using Outlook 2003, they sync to my Atrix running Android 2.3.4 without problems, but if I enter them on my Atrix (selecting the calendar that syncs, not the phone calendar), they never show up in my Outlook 2003 calendar.  Is this a known issue?  Any fix?  Thanks.

How are you syncing with Outlook? Are you using an Exchange server or some other tool that syncs directly with Outlook?

If Exchange, what version?

I would like to know how you sync with outlook too. Other than Exchange I've not heard of anyone who has been able to do it, and I'm not sure about Exchange either.

@jackswinden - There are many apps that allow Outlook sync:

Sync Android/Droid with Outlook/Exchange

I have not tried any, but many people claim to have found one or more that work for them

It should be a natively supported function. Even iOS allows syncing with Outlook and has it built in natively. Even the old Palm OS allowed it many many years ago. So why doesn't Moto build it in?

Exchange sync is built in - go to Accounts/Corporate Sync.  It actually worked properly on my Motorola BackFlip running Android 2.1 with this same version of Exchange (I'm still waiting to find out version number).  It seems like either Motorola broke it on the Atrix or Google broke it in Android 2.3.  It's curious that it works in one direction but not the other, though.

@craigbez - you had mentioned outlook, so I was trying to determine if you were doing Exchange sync or Outlook sync.

You have not mentioned what version of Exchange you are using - possibly it is related to that. EDIT - Isee you added it while i was typing.

I will check if anyone knows about v2003.

It works fine for me and others I know. Have you tried removing the account and re-adding it? I know I had some flakiness with Google Sync and only a Reset would fix it.

I'm not talking about Exchange syncing, not everyone uses exchange. I'm talking about syncing with Outlook via a USB cable. Most phone makers allow this and actually provide the sync software. Moto should have done that for the Atrix.

@jackswinden

I am sorry that you are not happy that something is not included, but if there are many free options, then it should not be a problem.

I don't know why Moto chose not to sync with Outlook, but I can guess:

Most people sync with a cloud service - Exchange and Google are the most popular and Google is free. It is also transparent - updates are synced in real time. Connections to Outlook are manual. Many people don't discover that they forgot to sync until after a catastrophic failure. So if you are syncing email why not sync contacts and calendar? And if there are free alternatives, why should Moto build yet another version?

But everyone has their own needs and if Outlook sync is a need of yours, I suggest you try one of the many free options.

Anyway, this thread is about one user with an Exchange calendar sync issue. I have provided options for you to sync with Outlook.
