Android Oreo update for Lenovo yoga tab 3 pro

2019-05-29, 12:08 PM

The lenovo YT3 pro is a really good and powerful tablet, but it running Android 6.0 is really a downside.

This has been raising compatibility issuses with multiple apps as developers are no longer supporting Android 6.0.

Are there any plans to provide an update to 8.0 for this device?

Buying some other tablet is not an option either, because (they don't have a projector or handy stand) this tablet is still high end enough to support Oreo.

I request you look into this matter.

Hi Aditya76! Welcome to our forums community. Unfortunately, the Yoga tab 3 pro can only upgrade up to Android 6 Marshmallow and you can refer to this link: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht501098.

The link you posted in your solution is a dead link, please update it.

Additionally - the question is - will the tablet get an update in the future, with a pretty good justification written by the customer. What is happening now is obvious. Some users are stuck on Adroid 6. How about into the future?

Great piece of hardware this. But software  os support is shambolic  for a high end device. Have numerous Lenovo devices including tablets, laptops and phones. Will not be reluctant to buy one again after this experience.

Sad to see Lenovo not keeping up with Android releases. If their new tablets come with android 8 or 9, it's only a matter of verifying the release for the Yoga Tab 3 pro.

Lenovo is losing customers over this lack of support.

Re: Android Oreo update for Lenovo yoga tab 3 pro

Yeah. I bought a Yoga Tab 3 Pro because I wanted a tablet with a handle (for accessibility reasons), and I'm very disappointed by Lenovo's lack of commitment to Android.

I even feel like starting a petition directed at Google to get them to revoke Lenovo's GMS licence (so they wouldn't be able to load Google services onto their Android devices) until they can prove they can provide the same level of care and attention to Android updates as Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel (including a minimum of 3 years or more of Android system updates).

I've had problems with apps getting killed when I try to close them, apps randomly crashing, notifications getting butchered, the inability to go higher than 720p60 and 1080p30 on YouTube, and more.

I'd really like to see if I can break into their OTA update server and retrieve older update packages, as it seems that the UEFI setup on mine has been completely locked off, while some have reported it being corrupted, and some were able to get in. I'm also trying to see if I can extract the EFI image and possibly modify a UEFI image from another device running the same Intel Atom SoC. Not only that, but I'm trying to see if there are certain points on the logic board that I can tap into.

The one I have is a YT3-X90F (64 GB and no cellular).
