SD card in Yoga smart Tab tablet

Hi all.

Just purchased Yoga Smart Tab YT-705F and 256Gb micro sd.  I installed sd card  followed prompt on screen all seemed ok,

BUt now on Switch on notification on lock screen saying "sd card missing" Insert device again.  Although when opening storage tab in settings this shows both device memory and sd card memory.     Help please what an i doing wrong.

Please follow the steps found on this link to format your MicroSD card into your Yoga Smart Tab device.

 

As for the MicroSD card, it would be still advisable to test it on a different device so that we'll be able to isolate if this is a concern with the MicroSD card that you're using.

You may also try a different MicroSD card into your Yoga Smart tab to check as well.

Just to ask:

  • Does the micro SD card works fine on other devices?
  • Have you already tried to use a different micro SD card to the Yoga Smart tab?

Thanks for your help..256gb card worked ok in laptop reformatted reinstalled in tablet same problem when used as extra internal storage. Tried another card 32gb different make in same format as extra internal storage but same message at switch on. re formatted both cards but this time used as portable storage. this time both cards worked ok & problem solved. Thank you for your help.Very impressed with community forum. Warby.

This is not really a solution to the problem. The problem only went away because the original person complaining here selected a DIFFERENT OPTION when installing the cards. He "fixed" the problem by installing them as "portable storage" rather than "tablet storage". Clearly the problem has not been fixed. The original person tried two entirely different cards that worked perfectly on other devices and neither of them would work when he tried to install them as "tablet storage".

 

I do not want to use the cards for "portable storage". I want to use them for "tablet storage". I have the same problem. I installed a brand-new 64GB SanDisk SD card. Everything seemed to work perfectly. I got a notification saying that the card needed to be formatted and asking me which option I wanted ("portable" vs. "tablet" storage - I selected "tablet"). The formatting program then said it needed to copy data to the card, which it did successfully.

 

I now have the following problem that occurs ONLY ON A RESTART OR INITIAL POWER-UP:

 

1. The login screen appears.

2. Several seconds later the following two-line message appears as a popup notification on the login screen: "SanDisk SD card missing" "Insert Device Again"

 

If I log in, everything seems normal. If I look in my notifications, then there is NO notification warning that the SD card is missing. If my device locks the screen, then when I log in again the screen does NOT show the warning message again. So this apparently rogue notification appears ONLY when logging in IMMEDIATELY AFTER POWER-UP. My guess is that some Android process is incorrectly indicating an SD card failure. It would be nice if someone could fix this annoying message.

Additionally I have more info about this. I also have a Lenovo Tab M8 which I also just bought. I installed an identical SanDisk 64GB card in that one using the exact same options. The Lenovo Tab M8 does NOT display this annoying notification. So my guess is that there is something wrong with the implementation of the "tablet storage" option on the Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab, since "tablet storage" seems to work fine on the Lenovo Tab M8.

And finally another note, lest you think there is something wrong with the SD card. The Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab (the unit that displays the rogue message) itself acknowledges that the SD card is present. I go to Settings -> Storage and it shows TWO storage items: "Internal shared storage" and "SanDisk SD card". It even shows how much of the SD card is used. So the tablet sees the card. The card is installed and working. And yet this message shows up - only on the initial login after power-up.

I received a call from Lenovo tech support, presumably in response to this. I don't want to spend hours on the phone with Lenovo tech support while they try to convince me that I've done something wrong and try to get me to return my tablet. This is either a bug in Android or it's a bug in Lenovo's implementation of Android.

 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Start with a Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab that has no SD card installed. Turn the unit off.

2. Install an SD card of any size (I used a SanDisk 64GB Class 10 "Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter"; this is its name on Amazon; it appears to really be UHS-3)

3. Turn the unit on and log in. You will receive a notification that you need to set up the SD card. Select the notification.

4. The SD card setup consists of one choice: "Tablet" mode vs. "Portable Storage" mode. Select "Tablet" mode (also known as "Internal" mode). The setup program will then tell you that it is copying data to the card, after which it will say that setup is complete.

5. After awhile restart the tablet and wait for a minute or two at the login screen without logging in. You will eventually see an incorrect notification telling you that the SD card cannot be found.

6. Log in and verify that the SD card is indeed working by going to Settings -> Storage, where it shows TWO storage items: "Internal shared storage" and "SanDisk SD card". It even shows how much of the SD card is used.
