"App not installed" error

When trying to install an app from APK we experience the error: "App not installed"

In this case it only happens with one particular app (Barclaycard).

How can we ascertain what the cause is? Is there a log file somewhere that helps shed some light?

Device is Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 [YT3-850F] running 6/Marshmallow

Hello !

 

Here are some of the reasons on why an APK app file can't be installed on your Lenovo Yoga Tab 3:

 

  • Insufficient storage. Android software and if data such as photos, videos, music, messages, Apps, contacts, emails, etc are stored in the internal memory there is not adequate storage left for another App, leading to Android App not installed error.
  • Corrupted/Contaminated App file. This is most common with apps downloaded from outside Google Play Store.
  • SD Card not mounted in the device. At times your phone could be connected to your PC or another electronic device which can access the SD Card from your device. In such situations when you install an App and choose to save it to your SD Card, you will see Android App not installed error because the App cannot find the SD card as it is not mounted in your device.
  • Incorrect file. If you already have an App installed but download another variant of it having a distinct signed or unsigned certificate can also make the Android App not installed error to pop-up. This sounds technical, but this and all the other reasons listed above can be tackled by you.

Google PlayStore is always the safest place on where to download an application. 

If you also have a screen overlay like Night Filtering operating, that will prevent any apk from installing.

None of this applies (with perhaps the exception of the last point) and this prescriptive, cut and paste response does not help anyone really.

 

The question remains: How do we find out - how to diagnose the issue?

Hello again !

 

You'll be getting 2 files on your device upon downloading any APK files. One is for the app launcher itself while the other is for the app to work properly. That file needs to be moved through your device's OBB folder upon installing the app launcher.

 

An APK file may not work sometimes if the file isn't moved to OBB folder of your device.

 

By the way:

 

  • Have you already tried downloading the Barclaycard app directly from the Google Play store?

You can still follow or use the link that I provided to see if your device is currently using Night Filtering as this might prevent any APK files from being downloaded/installed on your device.

What is the OBB folder?

Other APK files install properly from storage without issue.

Yes - that's where the APK comes from and it is not published anywhere else.

 


 

You can still follow or use the link that I provided to see if your device is currently using Night Filtering as this might prevent any APK files from being downloaded/installed on your device.

 


Night filtering is not available on the Yoga Tab 3 8" so this doesn't apply.

Thanks for providing those details .

 

Since this only happens when you're attempting to download the Barclaycard app, it would be recommended to contact the Barclaycard app publisher/developer for this to be checked on their end.

 

You can provide them this detail so that they can investigate it as well.

It doesn't and you cannot possibly expect this response to be of any help.

 

While it's almost certainly a problem with the app it does not really help anyone to say 'go talk to somebody else' which is, in effect, what this comes down to.

 

The app developer cannot see why we are having this problem so it falls to us to ascertain more of the finer detail. Sadly it seems that Android (or at least Lenovo's flavour of it) is not particularly forthcoming when things go wrong meaning we have to come here to find answers. Perhaps this is stating the obvious but nevertheless, we asked a straightforward question at the beginning of this thread (and a few more since); thusfar there haven't been any substantial or affirmative answers - just speculation and avoidance.

 

Cannot say we are impressed. :smileymad::smileyfrustrated::smileysad:
