Newbie transfer phone contacts from Palm Treo 680

2010-05-26, 1:17 AM
Just got my Backflip today. Overwhelmed! Has anyone migrated from a Plm Treo 680 and imported data like phone contacts?

Just a note that the Treo 680 does not have an option to export to an sd card but... talking to myself ... I can export form the Palm desktop. Would that work?

Do you have a gmail account?

If you do you should be able to export to the Palm desktop software and then export your contacts to a CSV file and import into your gmail acount (or to your Motoblur account).

There are a number of threads about this just search for import contacts in the search box at the top right of the page.

Here is info from Mark (Forums Manager):

Here may be a helpful link for getting your contacts on your Backflip: www.motorola.com/transfercontacts

Can the Treo export to your SIM card? If so you can export them to the sim and import them onto the Backflip.

No, unfortunately, the Treo keeps its contacts in its regular memory. Thanks

Thanks. I have checked out the threads. Most of my contacts do not have email addresses included and I believe I read that gmail will not pick up accounts without an email. If I put the csv file on the micro sd in the Backflip will I be able to read it?

Here are three apps from the market that will import a CSV file:

Contacts Importer - How to use

Offline Contacts Sync

Andook Lite

I have not tried any of them.

I have not heard of gmail not importing contacts without e-mails.

If you want to import your contacts onto your phone and then have them sync from there to your gmail acount follow these steps to turn on syncing with gmail before you import the contacts. If you don't need the contacts to sync with gmail you don't have to follow the steps I linked to.

Contacts added to the phone will sync with the Motoblur server, but you do not have access there to edit them or create groups. Contacts synced only with Motoblur have to be edited on the phone.

Please report back what works for you.

I was able to get my yahoo mail accounts to gmail and the Backflip does see the gmail contacts. Since my Yahoo is close to Palm I will just verify and manually add the ones in Palm not in yahoo and gmail. By the way although I transferred a contact .csv file from Plam , while i sees the file , it does not recognize it. Thanks for help.
