Motorola Backflip - Android upgrade under evaluation????

Few weeks ago I was searching info about backflip upgrade. At this official link (https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades) I found that the upgrade was planned for Q3 2010. A bit disappointed I continued to wait.

Today I went back to that page in hope to have an earlier upgrade and surpise the upgrade is no more planned but UNDER EVALUATION???

WHAT ARE YOU MOTOROLA GUYS EVALUATING?

This is unbelievable, and I'm so upset.

Not even chinese phone producers behave like this!

I had a motorola 8700 many years ago, after I did not buy any other motorola phone.... now I start to remember why....

I'll go back to nokia soon or try HTC bc this is not acceptable.

Regards,

Stefano

Re: Motorola Backflip - Android upgrade under evaluation????

It's so sad. I bought my backflip before it got to the USA, in china and brazil the launch date was earlier than in america (not sure about europe) and china and latin america are also, UNDER EVALUATION. This is not right, we got the phones earlier. I'm also really dissapointed with motorola.

Re: Motorola Backflip - Android upgrade under evaluation????

What is the point of having an android phone if the producer is not releasing the firmware upgrade for the O.S.? With the time, no backward compatibility will be guaranteed by android application developer. So what to do with the backflip? Should we use to block the doors when there is wind in our apartments?

This is really unbelievable.

Nice to see that noone from Motorola is answering.

Motorola --> Money can be spent much much much better.

@Stefano

This is a peer-to-peer support community. Responses by Motorola Employees is not guaranteed.

Originally the update page only had information for Backflip USA. We recently updated the page to include the other regions and their statuses.

When this status changes will update the Upgrade page.

Re: Motorola Backflip - Android upgrade under evaluation????

I'm wondering if Motorola will let us root the phone and install whatever we want if they discontinue phone update.

Can anyone say to me if there is any possibility?

Ronan.

Unless you purchased an unlocked phone, No, there is no possibility.  Neither you nor Motorola own control of the hardware.  AT&T (or your operator) owns it for the length of your contract (hence the license restrictions and early termination fee.)  It would almost certainly be a contract violation for Motorola to unlock your phone.

Theoretically, AT&T could unlock it for you.  I'd bet against them doing it though.

Re: Motorola Backflip - Android upgrade under evaluation????

Well, my phone was purchased from Vivo in Brazil.

It isn't lock, since I bought it and change the operator to TIM.

Legally, here I can do whatever I want with the phone, I have no contract.

But I need that Motorola release a firmware and codes to let me log as root, just like Nokia does with N900.

Thanks,

Ronan.

Re: Motorola Backflip - Android upgrade under evaluation????

I'm also from brazil, but i'm still in vivo.

I think here in brazil we don't even loose waranty if we root our phones. My

old htc, i rooted and send it to fix, and they fixed it without charging or

saying it was the root access. so i really want root access for Backflip.

Really really really!!!
