Unfortunately, I don’t think this is limited to users with task killers
(though it may be amplifying the issue). I currently don’t use any task
killers and am still seeing the microphone disappear

One of the ideas I have is that it may have to do with the aesthetics. I
just had the microphone disappear when using Google search widget. I think
this" feature" was designed so you don't get two microphones in the same
screen but had some unintended consequences.

I played with software drivers and such quite a bit before the upgrade and found the best way for me to be sure the Backflip looked like another USB drive on my computer was to un-install all Motorola apps from my PC, reboot, and then install the lastest version of the MML (Motorola Media Link) software onto my PC. Once I did that I could always plug my Backflip into my PC and the PC would see the Backflip as a new USB drive. I could then easily drag the 2.1 upgrade package over to the USB (in my case F drive and place it into the location as well described in the upgrade instructions.
At that point, no problems were encountered and the upgrade went totally as decribed. There are several drivers on the motorola web site but the MML worked best for me as it had all the drivers for connection and some niffty software tools to boot.

Yah everything was done correctly, file name wasn't changed, zip file was in the root directory. I finally switched to a fresh SD card, cleared out all the data and then added the zip file again. It worked this time.

I just upgraded now and everything seems to work just fine. The only problem I encountered was that the my phone wasn't able to connect to my computer so I used my SD adapter. Overall, I'm happy with the upgrade and I'm excited to explore 2.1!!

I was having problems playing my preloaded music through external speakers or earbuds. I shut my phone off, removed the battery, put the battery back in and turned my phone on. The music plays fine now. Apparently just shutting the phone on and off didn't solve the problem. Hope this helps someone. On another note is there a way to mute the welcome/boot up sound? Please?

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, currently there is no way to turn off the
welcome sign when at&t logo appears
