Re: Backflip: Will it eventually Upgrade to Android 2.X?

As has been mentioned in numerous posts, the term "update" talks about the firmware while the term "upgrade" refers to the android version change. In that sense, this thread should be renamed.

That is correct! I've updated the root post and your post. All replies should now have a fixed subject.

Well, TECHNICALLY, they BOTH refer to firmware...

An UPDATE is basically staying at the SAME android version/API level but incorporating bugfixes, etc..

An UPGRADE is changing the entire version of Android to a later one...

Using Windows as an example, Windows XP as the OS, think of a Service Pack as an UPDATE, and Vista/7 would be an UPGRADE.

Service Pack 3 (SP3) for example would be an update - you're STILL on WIndows XP, just a later build version (as the flip would be) incorporating patches, fixes, etc... An Upgrade would be going from Windows XP to Windows 7 (I doubt anyone would consider Vista an "upgrade," so to avoid the jeers, I just used Win7 as an example!!!)

Cheers!

Looks like some of you were right afterall. Sprint is one carrier who can't get it together for their promised update. Any longer and some will just get the Evo.

I am hoping Moto doesn't do this. This is why I don't mind Cliq getting it earlier which will make it a good test (i.e. if they get it in Q2, we are definitely getting it in Q3).

What I don't get is...Why is the Backflip only being updated to 2.1 in the USA?

The Milestone in Canada got the 2.x update.

The Backflip in the USA is scheduled for it's update.

But, the Canadian version...isn't getting the update?

The Backflip is a newly-launched phone...are the Canadian buyers simply being left behind? I just bought a backflip 2 days ago and this kind of makes me want to return it and just save up for a Nexus one or something.

If anyone can get me a definite "yes" or "no" as to whether the Canadian version's getting the 2.1 update, that'd be great. I've got about 10 days to return my phone.

Wow..sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant there. Just drives me nuts when there isn't consistency across the board.

EDIT: Is this the right spot for this inquiry, or should I create my own topic for this?

THANKS!

when the upgrade takes place will we have to uninstall and reinstall all our apps AND reconfigure our settings?  OR will it just be seamless?

@Skoot99 and rajattaneja

I've already asked about upgrade information for Backflips outside the US. Waiting for the response, sorry no definite yes or no at this point. An upgrade in one region with one service provider doesn't guarantee an upgrade in all regions. I'd recommend you inform your service provider you are interested in an upgrade.
