how do I change out SD card

2010-07-09, 22:41 PM

I want to change out my SD card for a larger one BUT I have things already on my current memory card.

How can I change everything over to my new card?

Is it as simple as....

1. copying everything on to my computer

2. removing old card

3. insert new card

4. format new card

5. copy over original files to new card

Yes it is that easy.

I recommend turning the phone off to physically change the card.

Formatting the new card in the phone also seems to work best.

Copying the contents from the old card to a backup and then to the new card will enable you to do this.

Actually, if you have a micro SD card reader, you can easiley transfer all files from one SD card, to the other in just one drag and drop of all files.  I did this to my phone.  I went from a 2GB to a 16GB SDHC card. It was really easy, and only took a few minutes.  When you do this, make sure to unmount the old SD card, and remove it from your phone. Place the new SD card in the phone so it can be formatted.  Put the old SD card, in the SD card micro reader.  Plug the phone and SD card reader in the USB ports.  Open, from your computer, "MY Computer", select the drive for the Micro SD card reader.  Drag the icon out to the desk top. Double click it, to see the contents on the SD card.  Highlight all files to be copied, and drag them back over to the drive for the phone. Check your phone to make sure that all files where transfered to the new SD card, by disconnecting the USB drive first.  From the apps. drawer on your phone, select Quickoffice to view whats on your SD card.  Hope this helps.
