Battery Life Is Now Only 5 to 6 Hours with Almost No Use

2011-07-31, 16:13 PM

In the past week, my battery life has gone down to about 5 hours from fully charged with little to no use.  I checked my battery use and it shows that Cell Standby is at 61%.  Time without a signal is indicated at 50%; even though I normally have 4 to 5 bars of 3G signal stength all the time.

I uninstalled several apps including anything I added in the last couple of weeks.  No change.

I did recently get an aftemarket Cellit USB car charger.  Is it possible that I screwed up the battery by using this car charger?

I also checked my network settings as suggested in another thread here, and my phone was already set to "GSM Auto (PRL)"; which is supposed to give much better battery life.

Anyone have any ideas?

Let me also add that the phone and battery are running quite warm.

Demodave,

I do not think the charger would cause this. The phone itself should be controlling the level of the battery. I am sure you have checked the task list to see what is actually running. I am constantly surprised that apps are running that I have not called up. You may want to add some to the autoend list.

I just remembered what Battery mode is your phone in? I use Nighttime saver. this may help too.

Demodave, It is also possible that you might have a battery that is failing prematurely. Do you have a spare that you can try??

I had the same problem. Even bought a few new batteries to combat it.

Two things ended up working for me.

I reset the phone, to no avail.

Once I removed the program MLB at bat, my battery life improved dramitcally.

I also installed the program "network" as suggested in these forums. Battery life has gone up in a big way.

I'd pull the phone off the charger at 8am, and it would be dead by 6pm if I didn't charge it at work.

Now I pull it off at 8am and I still have a 40-50% by the time 10pm rolls around.

I think the problem with the Mlb program is that it tries to update every minute of everyday, which sucks a lot of battery life. Combine it with living in a rural area, and it becomes a nightmare.

So if you have any apps that update super often like a stock ticker, sports scores, try removing it temporarily to see if it makes a difference.

I've never had the MLB app installed.  I had installed a couple of apps in the past few weeks; but I have since uninstalled them to make sure that they were not the culprit for my draining battery.

If it was an app, wouldn't it show up in my battery usage display?  Like I said, Cell Standby is at 61%.  From what I've read on other forums, that is unusually high.  Yet, I have full bars at work with the 3G symbol showing at all times.  I never drop calls either, so reception should not be an issue.

I suppose that the battery may be the issue.  If it was going bad, would it be getting hot like it is?

I am hoping to not do a full factory reset; but I may resort to that this week if another solution isn't suggested.

My battery got super hot too, it's because it's work so darn hard.

have you tried installing "network" mentioned in this other thread?

Try it.

I did install Network.  This is how I found out this info from my original post:

I just checked it again and it is definitely on GSM Auto (PRL).

OK...I am stumped!

Today, my Bravo is completely back to normal.  It has been unplugged since 11am; and 5 hour later, I am still at 80%.  That includes two texts, one phone call, and a quick trip using Google Navigation.  My phone is also running as cool as a cucumber right now.

I have made no other changes to the phone.  Very odd...

Is it possible that AT&T was having network problems for the past week, causing my phone to continually search for a usable 3G signal?

Sounds very plausable.

There maybe a way to find out from AT&T or other sites that track outages or signal issues. Call AT&T tech support if you have the time. I have found if you get beyond level 1 that you can get some good info.
