HX5 qlogic FC stopped working after FW update 7 via update express

Hi

I would like to know if someone has done a firmware upgrade to Qlogic QMI2582 adapter on bladeserver HX5. 

I went to the upgrade using updatexpress boot CD. After upgrading the qlogic QMI 2582 to version 7.04 the server lost FC connection.  No changes to anything else.  Blades are connected to V7000 FC via BC SAN switch Brocade.

I stopped update other blades.

Also I would like to know if there is a way to rollback to previous version.

Details:

 FW 7.04 FC  3.22  BIOS  2.14  UEFI 6.11

I did not find anything in Notification or Readme.

Make sure you aslo update driver when updating fw to latest version. The driver can also be downloaded from fix-central.

If you still see issue after updating driver ,that will be other issue (such as link level ) causing loss of connection.If you can share more detailed errors from OS level ,we can further analyze that.

 

We don't recomend reverting back to old version, downgrading fw may have risk to see other issue.

The 8G Qlogic ASICs have a boot f/w and a runtime f/w, the f/w update of 7.04 would only be affecting the boot f/w of the adapter, once the driver loads, a runtime f/w will suppress the boot f/w. If the adapter lost SAN connections and you were in the O/S when this occurred, it would likely be something else going on due to the way the ASICs work with the drivers and f/w loads. You could try bringing up the link by disabling the port on the switch and re-enabling, ensuring the link comes up and is clean.

 

Are you seeing there is no physical link being made on the switch port for the HBA? Is there link and it's not clean, i.e CRCs, discards, etc? Are you following tip H202210 for 8G best practice found here:

That tip is baseline levels that you should have to ensure proper link to the switch.
