Monitoring UFP Vport on Switches EN4093 or CN4093

2020-05-13, 13:42 PM

Hello Support

One of our Costumer ( Ministry of Housing)

This costumer want to monitor the amount of traffic Vport is passing through the UFP protocol on Lenovo EN4093  CN4093 switches

the client has no   way to monitor the performance of the UFP protocol in the UFP protocol ( they are Blind)

The existing commands on  ver 8.4.18 currently on the above switches cannot show the amount of traffic on the Vports

Also, the SNMP MIBs does not support the possibility of controlling the amount of traffic in those virtual introductions.

The Costumer

Please update me how I  reply to customer Requests.

1. Is there any way to monitor the amount of traffic in the UFP protocol?

2. Is there any future operating system expected that SNMP MIB will support the UFP protocol?

3. Is there a software or control Monitor  system that you/Lenovo  recommend that you can monitor traffic on Vports?

Thanks & Best regard

At this time there is no way to monitor utilization per-vport from the switch. You can only monitor utilization per-physical port from the switch. But you should be able to monitor vport utilization from the server-side OS of the vport (since the OS thinks each vport is a separate and distinct NIC connection, thus monitoring NIC utilization from the OS will provide vport utilization). So any tool that can monitor NIC utilization in your OS can, in essence, monitor vport utilization. There are no plans to enhance UFP to support per-vport utilization from the switch side.

Thanks, Matt
