If I purchase a Cliq, can I load whatever version of Android I want?

2009-11-12, 17:59 PM

I'm shopping for an Android phone and have narrowed it down to the T-Mobile 3G and the Motorola Cliq.

Love the Cliq handset but do not like non-standard OS loads on phones ( Blur  )

My purchase decision rides on this single question:

If I purchase a Cliq, will I be able to load whatever version of Android I want?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Not sure, but if you follow the history of the G1, you will see that developers have released several builds to choose from. However this usually voids the warranty and can be a daunting task for the average person. There are builds available for other android phones and I'm assuming eventually the Cliq as well.  check out http://www.cyanogenmod.com for more info

NO,

MotoBlur is an app that runs ON TOP of Android and it only supports android 1.5 (Cupcake). You can not load ANY version of android on the device. MotoBlur will need to be recoded by Motorola to work with all other versions of Android. Currently 1.5 is the only supported version.

Thanks for the info.  I purchased a Cliq last night and love it.
