POP3/IMAP & SMTP Setup on Cliq

2009-11-13, 15:00 PM

I have a customer that is trying to setup their email account with us on their Cliq.   I've provided what I can as far as server info and account info.

What I'm looking for is a step by step guide on setting up POP3/IMAP and SMTP on their phone.  Could some provide this or point me to somewhere that has this information?

The customer has asked both T-Mobile and Motorolla and both told them they could not help her.  If she can not get this resolved she plans on returning the phone.

Everything is on default ports but if T-Mobile blocks that an alternate SMTP port is available.  Also the SMTP server requires authentication as well.

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried the Auto Configure option?

Go Into "Accounts"

Add an Email Account

Uncheck Automatically Configure This Account

Enter Username & Password

Click Next

Depending on your server these settings may be slighly different:

Account name: Enter account name or full email address

Real Name: Put her name

Email Address: Put Email Address

Click the Incoming Tab at the top:

Set Type of Server: POP or IMAP

Server: Enter Server Name (this can usually be found on the email providers website, so a search for SMTP or POP Mail Setup)

Port: Enter the port number provided by her mail provider

Username: Put in her username (usually full email address)

Check to see if her provider offer an SSL connection, if so check the box

Also check to see if they need to verify an SLL certificate to use this feature

Follow the same steps above on the Outgoing Tab

If this doesnt work have her contact her Mail provider for correct settings.

I'll mark this as answered/correct when I hear back from her.

First off thank you for such a quick reply (btw I am the email provider).

Sounds pretty straight forward, my only question I guess is on the outgoing tab there is a place to provide username and password because our SMTP servers require authentication.

Also does T-Mobile block port 25?

Again thanks for your help.

No T-Mobile does not block any ports

As for the "authentication" - I dont see one, Im guess if you use SSL is may be ok. But that may be something to metion to the MOTODevs

Again thanks for the quick reply.  Typically there is a checkbox that states "My outgoing server requires authentication" this is in Outlook and I've see it else where.  I'm gonna guess that if the outgoing tab has a place for username/password then it will use that for the SMTP authentcation without having to check a box. (cross fingers).

settings -> accounts -> add account -> select email

Enter email address and password -> then next (there is an option to automatically configure account - but i uncheck and do manually)

Hit next and you have a screen with 4 tabs - UserID where you can put your real name and name the account; Incoming server, outgoing server, and other. The server tabs let you configure the server name, port, credentials and security.

As for SMTP, I use alternate ports as I never know what WiFi networks I am on that may block.  So i use port 80 for my SMTP server.

There are tabs for the servers (ingoing and outgoing) and both have settings for authentication, SSL and certificate verification.

The settings are at the bottom, and if on screen keyboard is visible, you have to scroll to see them, or click the back button to hide the keyboard.
