Re: CLIQ XT 2.1 T-Mobile upgrade - News (Second Edition)

I was wondering here, ok... 2.1  will not going to be release but at least, you could make a 1.6 version  which is a lot better than 1.5 without lots of apps and full of bugs.

You  have Devour which runs 1.6 and Motoblur... why not prepare a 1.6 for  Cliq XT? A lot was said that 2.1 is a huge step from 1.5 but 1.6 is  not... think about Moto.... at least you're going to make a good  percentage of consumers, happy =)

It's  a pitty we won't have 2.1 officially and something tells me the speaker  issue was the cause for that... not met the performance requirements?  Why? Cliq / Dext - Backflip - Cliq XT / Quench are the same hardware,  the same processor, the same amount of ram memory... why they perform a  software and the same hardware on the other device cannot perform it?

I'd  like to add it's REALLY admirable Motorola tried to use community work  to improve the ROM, you have my respect about that! Why not hire them?  why not have a open dialog with them? You're a huge company but being  huge is not just have lots of filials around the world but also,  recognize community work and help and more than that, enjoy that because  yep, the devs can, will and wish to help you a lot!

Best  Regards and @Mark / @Matt, thank you for keep us informed (as much as  you could) and to be with us in the harder moments.... friends are for  that right? =)

Regards

+1. Major kudos for providing a calm, well thought out post.

I too hope that they can at least provide a 1.6 update. It sounded like that was the original intent back when the upgrade was first announced, so they may even have started.

@montreyj

As Matt said I don't think he could say anything last year and he tried to change the decision after they became aware of it.

@hugh2d2

Saw your post on androidguys. I honestly don't think MOTOBLUR is really to blame for the inability to upgrade or that they're trying to get more money... It might actually be that the combinations of different code just didn't meet the needs of Google and T-Mobile. Why instead of insisting on conspiracy theories, let's just believe them an cut our losses. I've seen ROMs running stock with BLUR just fine. Can't mention names on here of course ;). Something else in their code just must not have met approval.

@Motorola

Way to attempt to use independent dev code!!! Props! Surprised no one else has commented on that.

I say we all XT owners start complainning everyday to Motorola and T-Mobile until they can compensate us for this obsolete piece of &*^) device.

Mark and Matt know all along that we were not getting the update.  If you both knew you were optimistic about the the outcome of 2.1 coming to the XT why you didn't say anything last year?

I'm unhappy.  I have no contract since I have a T-mobile Even More Plus plan, but I PAID FULL PRICE for this phone.  It couldn't even run the apps I wanted when I first bought the phone.  That being said, I don't have hundreds of dollars sitting around to be used on a new phone. This has got to be the worst $360 I have ever spent.

I know Matty but they haven't announced it too much, probably waiting for 2.1 for Cliq XT to be ready.

Maybe in the future but I bet they won't, Quench / Cliq XT hardware is already old.

Good to see a friend from Brazil =)

@Serv, sorry not to mention you before. You also helped the community a lot and suffered with us a little bit =P thank you

@Tanis.7x, thank you =D I'm a calm person, I believe everything is solvable, depend on us. Bad Complaints and Words won't change the sittuation.

Motorola will not release what is missing from the Cliq XT because it has Blur on it and it's proprietary (and lots of other phones runs it). They also won't release 2.1.55 which is the latest known version of 2.1 for XT for business reasons.

@Mark and @Matt, I don't think Motorola and T-Mobile executives will find it interesting as Cliq XT is a new (but already old in terms of hardware) but, please, try to get a fully working 1.6. It would be a lot appreciated by all the community and help you to pass through this moment.

@angourakis

The MotoMix has been released in Korea and I have found a few places you can buy it online:

http://www.010free.co.kr/shop/item.php?it_id=1289210694

http://shopping.pickl.kr/media/media_detail?item_id=21266

And here you can find a picture of it running in the wild:

Now I got angry >.<

Well, I have nothing to add here to discussion anymore. I just thought today, Motorola could recover itself with Android and was going fine in US Market. Not delivering Android Upgrades in world markets was a huge #fail but US Market proved to be pretty rentable...

Let's see how they are going to handle with that now..

@MM, are you sure these are trustable websites? It's piece of cake fit a picture with 2.1 from any device to Cliq XT screen haha..

Can you confirm MotoMix was REALLY release @Mark or @Matt?

So what the hell are we suppose to do when 90% of all apps will not run on 1.5?

The same thing you did when 90% of your computer software would no longer run on Windows 98. Either keep using old version of the software, or upgrade.

That may sound harsh, but it is the harsh reality of the world of technology.

Disclaimer- I am not saying that this is a justification for anything. I agree that the usable life of the XT should have been significantly longer.
