Help with self starting apps on my Devour

2010-05-17, 15:43 PM

To try to save battery, I am constantly killing apps.  A few some show up that I did not start, nor do I use.  For example, vcast music, and vz navigator.  Does anyone know how to keep these from starting?  I also looked to uninstall these apps, and it appears that I can't do that since they're Verizon included apps.

Thanks for any assistance.

If your not using Vcast Music and VZ Nav they should not be starting when not in use. What makes you say that these are starting when your not useing them?

I use Advance task killer - a lot.  Trying to get my battery to last a work day.  Each time I'm done using the phone, I run that app to clear out applications I was using.  At least once a day, I see  vcast music, or vz navigator or both on the list.  So, I kill them. but I did not run them, never had.

I've personally never been a big fan of task killers (even on windows mobile), in the case of android just because an app shows up in a task killer list doesn't mean that it is hogging resources. In some cases, if the core OS wants an app running, killing it can actually use more resources than leaving it in an idle state.

This app was suggested by Verizon, because I came in complaining of heavy battery use, and my phone was warm most of the time.  So, after that, I make it a habbit to kill apps all the time... my phone does last longer, and its no longer warm all the time.  You suggest otherwise?

My suggestion is that if the task killer is working for you; and has helped your battery life, keep using it. In my case it didn't help, but I use most of the apps on my phones pretty heavily.

Agreed with pacojr67.  I don't use a task killer on mine at all, and I don't recommend using it.

All you should do when finished with a program is hit "home" to get back to your home screen, and then press the power button to turn the screen off.  That should end any running applications (unless they're designed to run in the background or act as a service) and help your battery use.

The task killer did nothing for me either, but if it's helping someone else, then i guess that's ok.

If people are using the phone a lot with the screen constantly turning on by checking by it, this will drain your battery.... I have days the battery last for days, and when I use the phone a lot by constantly checking it I get one day.... I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with the battery being drained insufficiently.
