MicroSD card issue

2011-03-14, 15:15 PM

I bought a 16GB ADATA Class 10 micoSD card for my D2G, but it just doesn't work.  The card is not a fake since it came directly from ADATA and I tried formatting the card on my phone and my computer and I have the same issues.  The issues are that the card sporadically gets recognized by my phone (e.g., I have to turn the phone off and on to get it to recognize it) and when it does get recognized, apps either don't open or force closes just about every app.  FYI I also haven't moved any apps to SD yet, but I hope to once I get a 16GB card.

BTW the stock card and another 8GB card I have both work perfectly.  Is this strictly an ADATA or Class 10 issue??

I of course contacted ADATA again, but didn't know if I was missing something.

Thoughts, tips and advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks, everyone!

Just to give everyone an update, I tried the second ADATA card and had the same problems.  As a result, I returned the card to them for replacement again, ordered a 16GB SanDisk, transferred everything to that card and it works perfectly.

Now when I get my new ADATA replacement, I will just sell it for a profit (since I got such a good deal on it) and consider it a lesson learned.  Although I have had luck with ADATA in the past.

Thanks again!

Thanks!  Unfortunately the ADATA card is probably half the price, if not more than half the price of the Kingston.  It's good to know that Class 10 probably isn't the issue.

Unfortunately as I was told by several manufacturers and Verizon themselves only a few brands of sd cards will work on this device. I bought a 32gb Sandisk micro sdcard. That along with I believe Duracell are the only two that reps and manufacturers work on this device. I asked numerous times because there was sales on ebay, amazon, and other sites from other companies and when I went to the store it so happened to be someone in front of me using a different brand that wont work on our devices. I would suggest talking to tech support to make sure its compatible as all brands are not recognized by this device and to also go to the tech supervisor at your local store to see if they can verify if that brand will work or if they know of a way to make it work. Hope this helps.

Thanks.  I actually called Verizon and was quite shocked by their response.  They said they have no such list and the only way they would ever help anyone with a microSD card issue is if the card was purchased from them or if it was obviously the stock card.  Otherwise its considered a 3rd party item with no VZW support and your odds are 50/50 if your card will work with the phone.  The guy was actually a bit rude.

According to Motorola's D2G accessory list, it appears that they only like SanDisk, but VZW seems to only like Duracell.

Rudeness from customer support is never appropriate; however, I do understand their position on not supporting non-OEM devices.   --- Dan

Thanks.  I agree and I didn't expect support and troubleshooting.  I only asked if there was a list of microSD cards that work or don't work with the D2G.

That rep should be reported if in any way they were rude. You were only asking for information not a lecture. Most of the time Verizon reps try to work with you but when a rep is very unaccommodating then politely reference what your call was about and how the rep was so that they know not to be harsh when you were simply asking for information. Typically Verizon stores carry the sdcards and would be a better bet in finding a Sandisk, plus if it doesn't work you can return it and also it will be documented that your device doesn't read sdcards well if there's any problem. Sorry you had a bad experience with that rep, its uncalled for.

You're welcome, hopefully you won't get a repeat of this, ever again.    --- Dan

Try sticking to brands like Kingston, SandDisk. I use 16GB class 4 SanDisk in my D2G with absolutely no issues.

Personally I had a lot of issues with ADATA flash cards (bought two 16GB class 6 for my camcorder couple of years ago, one of them is physically falling apart for no apparent reason, the other one recently started giving me read/write errors. Quality is not that good apparently. I guess I got what I've paid for..
