Turning off 3G

2012-03-13, 5:11 AM

There are times when I do not have access to the 3G network, and I would like to know can you turn off the 3G setting so the phone can send/receive texts, phone calls?

I have the Motorola Droid 2 Global.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

pwc123,

I know there is an option to do this on the Droid2 and I'm sure it is there on the D2G as well, I can't tell you how to go about changing it here but it is tucked away in a menu not readily accessible to users and should not be tampered with unless you are a professional or are under guidance from your service provider. Perhaps you could give Big Red a call and see if they'll do it with you.

Re: Turning off 3G

I called Verizon and obtained a pretty good solution.  3G was draining the battery fast.  Go to settings, select battery & data manager.

Data saver - VZW said turn this off, but looks like this should be enabled

Data Delivery:

  - Turn off background data

  - Data enabled, turn this off too.

  - Email and Corporate sync

      - Email delivery - Sync over wi-fi only

     - Attachment download - only over wi-fi

 - Social applications - sync over wi-fi only

This will reportedly not disable 3G, only access it when you want to?

The phone still receives text mseeages and I am hoping for extended battery life

Good luck
