What do you hate about Motoblur

2011-03-17, 18:14 PM

I have a bunch of things I don't like about Motoblur.  So I'm wondering what some of my fellow D2G owners dislike about Motoblur.  Maybe Moto would listen and make some changes.

Apps that take up room that are never needed

cannot remove apps if you choose to without rooting, yet more and more posts are coming up about this on this forum

How it may be contributing to reboots, overheating battery, and screen freezes

Damn near everything.  I like some of the integrations that are capable, but there's so little control and customizing capabilities to it, the only thing I truly like is the feel of the email client (by comparison to the stock Android client).

I hate everything about Motoblur. The widgets are crap, if you use Blur's social networking widgets and then download the official apps and widgets it creates a confusing mess, the home screen behaviour is just wierd, and most of the apps that Motorola have messed with look horrifically ugly. I'm not sure who at Motorola thought Blur was a good idea, but, well, it isn't.

I agree also.  I hate that it's not customizable.  Android is big on customization yet moto takes it all away from you.  Why do i need a short cut for both the phone and contacts at the bottom when I can get to the contacts from the phone app?  Why is it the recent calls list doesn't show the time the call came in instead of only how long ago (very important for my job)  I hate how the phone saves contacts, I want the contacts only on my Gmail not saved to my phone.  I hate the way the contact view is set up.  I hate how slow it makes my phone.  Just tired of it.

Hve you thought of using a Home replacement app like Launcher Pro, ADC or Panda Home?  If you do, some (but not all) of the MotoBlur processes don't even run.  I had no interest in MoboBlur and pretty much duplicated the look and feel of my original Droid by using a home replacement app.  And, I like the additional customization it offers.  I have shortcuts for everything I routinely need and rarely access the App Drawer.  Some have complained of lagging or hesitation, but I've not had any complaints.  My D2 functions fine, doesn't freeze up or unexpectedly reboot.  My co-worker has the same app (Launcher Pro) on his Global and likes it.  - MarkC

Mark, the changes they made with blur don't stop at the launcher.  I can't use the market's facebook app to sync my contacts.  My only option for that is the blurred version, which chews up battery life and forces me to sync ALL contacts, not just the ones who already have phone entries.

It's crap like that which makes me despise motoblur.

Also that this Motoblur 3.0 that is supposed to improve the bloatware on our devices hasn't been mentioned or brought up in months.

That people are telling corporations, and rightly so, the affect of Motoblur aside from the multitude of problems are blacklisting all Motorola devices and Motorola doesn't seem to be concerned.

That Motorola will not publicly acknowledge to all owners and potential customers of the problems that Motoblur and other bugs/issues does not make this a business ready device.

I don't hate anything about MotoBlur.  It's easily manageable if you choose not to use the Blur widgets, and some of them I find actually useful.    --- Dan
