Gingerbread for Droid 2

2011-06-01, 15:26 PM

Can we find out any info on when the Gingerbread update for the Droid 2 will be released? I see that it is rolling out now for the Droid X (https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/396890#396890), and that no info has been posted on the software update page https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades

Can we at least get a confirmation that the Droid 2 will get Gingerbread?

Not to mention, there have been reports of the Droid Pro receiving the Gingerbread OTA as well. Not sure what is going on, but I would love to see something about the Droid 2.

Something official would be nice.  My step-son, who has a Droid X, doesn't want the upgrade (major problems after the last one).  I can't wait to get Gingerbread on my Droid 2, but would rather have an official OTA upgrade rather than a leaked version.

My Droid2 is not currently activated.  Will there be a way to get the GB update when(if) it comes?

Probably OTA via wifi or one of the other dozen usual methods once the devs get their hands on it.

OTA might be a no-go being that the device is not activated, however, I do remember a while back that it was discussed in these forums on a different device that an update/upgrade could be pulled via WiFi. As for the methods that developers/modders get it, that's risky business unless you absolutely know what you are doing. Discussing the methods of rooting/modding are not permitted as per forum rules, but if you truly are set on this method then you can do a few searches and find more information.

Take it easy,

Wow... really? Not a single word from anyone on the Motorola side about this despite the recent threads created?

It's a shame.

Yeah I was hoping for something, but not really expecting anything.

Definitely think my next phone will not be a Moto device, especially considering recent announcements from HTC, and Moto seems to be afraid to step up to the plate.

Re: Gingerbread for Droid 2

I think I'm about to consider the same thing. You'd think all the support we give Moto by purchasing their products, even becoming apart of the MFN, that we'd at least be worth two minutes to give us an update on what is going on? The lack of communication is horrible, and despite the outcries from the consumer, no one has the decency to at least SAY SOMETHING?

Seriously, I've been hunting all over every forum, every thread. I've already ran the Android 2.3 leak that was released a while ago. Yeah, there are some bugs because it wasn't meant for the Droid 2, but it was nice. Now I'm back to stock 2.2 awaiting any possible OTA, given both the Droid X and Droid Pro have already gotten theirs. What gives?

I, amongst other people are far beyond the expectation of some kind of solid date or timeframe. Tell us that the OTA for the Droid 2 is having issues? or it's still being worked on, and should hopefully be out soon? or, just let us know we are wasting our time, because the update is just not coming. Honesty would be nice at some point, right?

I just don't get why it has to be so "top secret" about the software development of our phones? Yeah, you don't want to make false promises, but God for bid a few details slip up and have to be taken down asap. We've already come this far to support Motorola by being apart of this network, the community, and among the consumers who have put a part of their hard-earned money towards this. The least we expect is some sort of communication, at all, if any. I know there are some angry people who are hating motorola for this, so why not step up the game? Be true to your loyal customers, and we will continue to be true to you.

That's my opinion.
