Re: D4 4G dropping consistently

Well I finally contacted VzW, we did a factory reset, that didn't fix the issue and they sent another phone that should be here today. However, I went across town the other night (after talking to VzW) and the GPS and signal worked fine. So, I called VzW back on Sunday because as it turns out my daughter's Droid 3 was having the same issue in the area around our house. I have deduced that the issue is not the phone but a network problem, could be with the cell tower or the SW running on the network. The VzW tech opened a ticket for them to check out the network in my area. Needless to say, I agree with Dan, this looks like a VzW network issue not a Motorola problem, and I do have some experience with network issues as I manage those products at work.

I get the same thing in Omaha Ne, been like that for months now, sometime never connects to 4G, have to turn it off and use only 3G most of the time. Wish they would get the bugs fixed...

Re: D4 4G dropping consistently

I'm actually from Chicago but live in Philadelphia at the moment. I also have two D4s available to me in Chicago, so I think I'm in a pretty good position to respond to this one.

My D4's data works almost without a hitch in Philadelphia. I had some initial problems with the data setting turning itself off completely, but that was fixed in the first OTA update earlier this year. Since then, the only issues I have are occasional and come down to my battery saving settings.

The last two times I've been home to Chicago, I've had tremendous problems with the 4G. The phone will show full signal (and even that data is being transferred), but then drops out completely. It seems incapable of "failing down" to 3G, either. It's so frustrating that I've forced my phone down to 3G both times [Settings-Wireless % networks-Mobile networks-Network Mode=CDMA only]. To me, the loss of 4G speed is preferable to the annoyance of the 4G freak-outs.

As an added bonus, the battery tends to last a lot longer with a consistent 3G signal, both because of LTE's battery draining qualities and that a phone that's always searching for signal will end up using more battery than one that's connected the entire time.

I only have access to the second D4 in Chicago, but it has exactly the same issue with 4G. This says to me, loud and clear, that Verizon has a problem with its Chicago area 4G service. From O'Hare as far west as Schaumburg and north as the Wisconsin state line, the issue persists.

Maybe ICS will magically mess with the timeout/refresh settings and make this a moot point. However, this is clearly Verizon's problem.

@dansdroid. I thought that too, but I've been in chicago and it was worse and now I'm in Minnesota waiting for my new droid 4. I think it's my phone.

I live in Kenosha and I also have been experiencing the 4G drop.  I toggle my data on and off so when I turn it on the 4G locks in when it turns blue then all of a sudden drops 2 or 3 times before switching to 3G.  I'm baffled and a little irritated with it.  I'm guessing it's got to be the network.

4G service is horrible in the Raleigh, NC area. It seemed fine when I went to Charlotte, but i may have just lucked out. Several other friends of mine with different 4G models have had the same issue. Hopefully, ICS will fix it.

Just received a call from Verizon, I was told that the storms in my area did cause issues in the network and the issues have now been resolved. I have found that my GPS signal in my home area is fixed and everything is back to normal.

I live in the Northern California bay area and recently I have had both 4g drop issues and GPS issues. My 4G would constantly drop making it really had to use Google nav. As for my GPS, it takes forever to get a connection to the satellite. I haven't swapped phones yet, I'm waiting for ics and see if it fixes the problem.

I'm in Kansas City.

Randomly I just loose "4G Data" as it turns white and refuses to give me data. :(

Well I got the new droid 4 Verizon sent me. It's been a couple days and I'm having 0 issues with the bars turning white like it was. So it was definitely the phone. I suggest all of you having the white bar problem with your 4G call verizon and tell them what's going on and that you've factory reset everything. I'm glad it's working beautifully now. Sooo happy, but it's definitely the phone and not Verizon's network. I'm so happy they replaced it right away for free.
