Still waiting for ICS? Well...

2012-02-28, 15:24 PM

...kids...if you're waiting for ICS to be made available...Google announced that Android 5.0 is on the horizon. So where does this leave those of us who are still on v2.3.4? Undecided

They're just speculating at this point. I wouldn't worry too much.

It's already been stated that we will not see ICS until 4th quarter. The bionic is still under

evaluation and the other phones in build mode are not slated until Q3, that is why I say

4th quarter.

Jeallybean? Yeah I heard about that, mostly just rumors though. But there end goal with ICS is to become more unified OS. So if thats true it should not be as difficult to port over to JB then it is to ICS. And Im not sweating it they always seem to leak rumors about then latest and greatest about a year out.

And...toward the bottom of the first page in the article is this info:

Lockheimer acknowledged that there is frustration over receiving ICS upgrades in a timely manner, which was why the Android Upgrade Alliance was announced at last year's Google I/O conference. The premise of the group was that phone manufacturers and wireless carriers would provide timely upgrades of devices during their first 18 months on the market.

Soooo...Sept 2012 would only be 12 months into the "schedule" (my quotation marks).

That was the first time I ever heard of an 18 month cycle.

BTW, sounds like they haven't settled on a dessert name for 5.0, either.

Your absolutely right about it has not been confirmed that 5.0 will be called Jellybean. That's just what Ive been reading, there's a lot of articles coming in from MWC right now speculating that name.

Perhaps it would be best for the Bionic to skip 4.0 and go right to 5.0.  Just kidding. Cool

My bet is that AT&T phones will see ICS first, followed by T-Mobile, Sprint and then Verizon. For some reason Verizon likes to take their sweet time with upgrades.

I guess until Google streamlines the upgrade process better, the only way to get upgrades is to get a new phone.

Which Verizon phone do you think will be the first with ICS? Aside from the Nexus.
