Residual files leftover from deleted apps etc.

2013-06-11, 5:10 AM

I wanted to try some apps/widgets out from the Play Store and to my disappointment, they sucked so I uninstalled. Also, try some home launchers to see what I liked best on my Razr xt912. Now I'm thinking of doing a fresh clean factory reset and install the launcher and apps or widgets I want to keep because of any leftover data or files these may have left on my phone. Keep in mind I have tried many "Cleaner" apps and most if not all did not perform well. I did find some leftover junk in the "Device Storage" part of the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Thank's.

Sure try a cache partition wipe. Power off device. Press and hold power plus volume up and down. When the menu appears scroll down with volume down.highlight recovery, then press volume up. Then when the android on his back appears hold volume down and tap volume up. Then the recovery menu pops up scroll down to wipe cache partition and press the power button to wipe.

It is my understanding that the Cache Partition from the recovery menu only affects system cache, not necessarily App cache. I use Clean Master Cleaner (KS Mobile) at least once a day. It is free from the play store, and has a 4.7 user rating. Has features not included in others I have tried including Residual file clean up as well as APK cleanup.

Have deleted Apps, and then have it ask me if I wanted to remove other files it left behind. Worth a shot. Found it did clear more than the others I had used.

Hope this helps.

I think your right, but is there files or data left over from deleted apps like I found in the internal memory file? I don't believe apps can write to the android partition directly but am still curious about elsewere. Out of all the cleaner apps I've tried "Clean Master" did do the best but still missed these. I'm still a noob so I figure I'll keep searching this subject and start with understanding how Android functions with the cache, partions and memory. I Found a good article last night about memory usage but was too sleepy to grasp it. I'll try again today. here's the link http://www.androidcentral.com/ram-what-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care I'll try XDA forums in a bit.

I could just re-install Clean Master and call it a day but my curiosity won't let me...lol. What really started this was I had a Droid X2 and when my memory dropped below 200MB it got buggy and lagged. The leftover files/data from deleted apps was just a ocd thing I guess.

Just to keep it running as best it can, I power my phone down once a day everyday. I clear the cache partition at least once or twice a week, and run Clean Master at least once per day. Never any issues with memory or lag on the phone. About once a month, I will go into File Manager and clean out any other cache that was missed, but not as much there since I switched from Cache Cleaner+ to Clean Master. It's just better all the way around.
