What happened to the cursor keys in KitKat?

2014-06-03, 22:47 PM

After upgrading to KitKat, the left, right, up, down cursor soft keys located above the on-screen keyboard disappeared on my Droid RAZR MAXX HD.

Yes there are curse keys for those of us that won't let go of the past. I have been holding off on the upgrade because along with many other features this is one that had disappeared. Thus should show the arrow keys above the key board. So simple and oblivious but a must have. I'm waiting for this fix and about 10 others before I'll make the jump. Long live the Bean!

This is the Google Keyboard, right? If so, then this decision was made by Google, not Motorola. You would have to bug Google to add that feature back into the keyboard. You are more than welcome to discuss it here as well, but Google will never see this post. Hope this helps.

Wrong. That is the Swype keyboard that had those cursor keys. You'd have to reinstall Swype from the Play Store. But its changed a lot since the version Maxx HD had before KitKat.

Swiftkey 5 has arrow keys as an option.  It's now free and is in the Google Play Store.

As suggested - SwiftKey is the way to go. Now free, and now allows for a number row above the QWERTY keyboard. Plus has themes so you can change it up or select default colors. Also uses whatever you have set as your system font as the font that is on the keys.

It's only free for a month, according to Google Play.

Even if it goes back to 3.99 - it is worth every penny.

Just checked and I don't see "30 days" anywhere. Maybe I missed it.
