Yea, this update caught me off guard this morning too.

Here is the link to the update details from Verizon:

Not sure why I would use this updated/new backup assistant as it seems redundant to the naitive Google services. Also not sure what 'Mobile Device Management" refers to.  Can't wait to try the camera in low light so see those updates.

I think the PDF link is a mistake by Verizon, that's the PDF file for the previous update (98.15.66.XT907.Verizon.en.US).  I received 98.30.1 and the other version was 98.18.94.  I don't think we received and camera improvements, I think that was the previous update.  I posted this yesterday, but here is what I saw before Verizon removed the PDF page for this update:

Improved HDMI Performance.  Since we do not have an HDMI connector, I don't  think we received any HDMI improvements.

The latest version of Backup Assistant has been added (the new Verizon Cloud app)

Device can be charged via Rapid Charger when it is powered off

GPS indicator reports more accurately on the status bar when location based apps are launched

I'm wondering if this update has helped anyone who had the phone's unexpected shutdown problem referenced in the two links below:

https://forums.motorola.com/posts/80d7e179da and https://forums.motorola.com/posts/18e2925a77

I've had the shutdown problem and just installed this update yesterday, but it's not been long enough to tell yet whether it's been fixed as I can sometimes go a few days without the phone shutting itself off.

Yea, interesting, I didn't realize the .pdf didn't match the release number.

I'm surprised Motorola or Verizon seems not to know what this update was or contains.

I've not had any shutdown issues with my phone, but, I do have to reboot it every few days because the Bluetooth audio often fails to connect.

I see no changes in the operation of the phone since installing 98.30.1.XT

I have noticed since the software update, that I see a "background data restricted" warning after resuming my phone from sleep.  There is a symbol on the status area that quickly disappears once resumed.

I am not sure why this is showing up..  does not seem to be impacting my phone that I can tell.  I am wondering if others are seeing the same thing.

When you go to Settings > Data Usage > Menu;  is Restrict Background Data checked?   If it is checked, you could try unchecking that option and the message should not appear anymore.  I'm not sure why the recent update would have affected that, but I guess it's possible.

You could also leave it checked. It is a very nice feature to have on if you are worried about battery life. It will keep any app from using data while the phone is in sleep mode. That can translate into a lot of battery consumption savings. Hope this helps.

Hi all, no the "restrict background data" was not checked in the settings menu.  So I assume that it should be doing background syncs.

However, now that I know there is an option, I may just check it anyway so that it will save battery life as joelbon pointed out above.

Thanks all!

If it isn't checked than I am wondering why background data is being restricted? Do you have any apps installed that are utility based or battery savers? Does the M still have Smart Actions? I know that had a battery saver as well. It had options to restrict background data. You may just have another app that is doing the restricting. Hope this helps.
