Re: AUTO-ROTATE SCREEN PROBLEM

Yes I have not put any apps on my phone. Got no use for any yet. So this happened for no reason. I live close to a Verizon store. I will stop in and ask about this. A new $200 phone should not be doing this. We have old beat up DROID 2 phones at work and they don't do this.

Re: AUTO-ROTATE SCREEN PROBLEM

2012-03-11, 16:28 PM

I went through the same problem today with my razr maxx - checking and unchecking the autorotate box - nothing.  Only thing that worked was a reboot.  I do remember setting the browser to always display in landscape, but now I can't find that setting.  I've had the phone for over a month before it came up with the problem.  It seems to me like the galary app was not working properly before the reboot as well -  maybe that was causing the autorotate problem.

Would someone that is having consistent problems try starting in Safe mode and see if it occurs there. If it doesn't than it is more than likely a 3rd party app that is causing this. Thanks and hope this helps.

Good advice Joel.  I could do that but in the reboot itself would render it working again.  Just hapopened to me for the 2nd time.  I'm convinced it's a native issue (memory leak of some sort?) but simply can't afford to run with no 3rd party apps for the 3 weeks or so it would take to prove otherwise.

thx

Re: AUTO-ROTATE SCREEN PROBLEM

I had this happen to me a few days ago.  I was trying to use Google's Navigation app and I couldn't get a landscape view in my car.

Auto-rotate was enabled, but it wasn't working.

A reboot fixed the problem.

This is a bug.

This happened to me yesterday, and happened to a friend of mine a week or two ago as well.  We both have MAXXes.  A reboot fixed the problem each time.

One of the things your moderator might want to do for you is create a synoptic list in one thread of all the behaviors you find post- the most recent software update. That way everyone will know where to go to get a listing of issues that people are reporting on that software load.

This was very effective in the Motorola Triumph forums. Our list is in the "Common Issues" thread.

Re: AUTO-ROTATE SCREEN PROBLEM

2012-04-25, 15:18 PM

I have had this issue on my razr maxx, starting yesterday.  Rebooting temporarily fixed the problem, but then this morning the screen would not rotate to landscape.  I thought this could have something to do with the update yesterday (6.12.181), but I've searched on other forums that people have been having this problem since back in December.  It appears that either it is a bug or there is some app that is locking the screen, but so far no one has been able to list the app or multiple apps that might do this.  Also, others have had this problem straight out of the box with no user installed apps, which leads me to believe this is a bug that needs to be fixed, not an installed app problem.

Some people have tried putting their phone in safe mode (power off, then power up and hold volume up & down keys untill safe mode apears in the bottom of the screen) but I haven't read of any successful diagnostic solution because of it yet.

Anyone have any great ideas that will solve the problem?  Looks like right now all we can do is reboot to get a temp fix.

I am sorry, but from everything that I have read thus far, you have everything right in your post:

  • auto-rotate will sometimes not work--this issue pre-dates the April update, and the trigger for this even has not yet been identified

  • a reboot fixes the issue

  • at this time, there is no other known fix
