Can not kill & bury back up assistant

2013-04-14, 20:22 PM

1) On VZW I do not subscribe to even the free backup service

2) I have never used the backup service

3) After FDR I 'skip' setup for backup service

4) I have disabled 'sync service, 'Google Bookmark sync',

'Google Calendar sync', & 'Google Contacts sync'

STILL... The 'Backup Assistant Plus' & 'Backup Assistant Media' keep showing up in my running applications no matter how many times I clear their data and force-stop them.  How on earth do I permanently end these guys?

Verizon techs couldn't figure it out... nor do they know why the ability to disable them is gone in Razr JB.

In ICS you could disable one of the 3 services for BUA, but that has been taken away in the JB version. The only way you can disable it now is with root. You will have to search other forums if you want more information than that. Anymore information than that would break house rules. Hope this helps.

You can not disable backup assistant without discussing the unmentionable. I don't think you could on ICS either

You might try logging into your account on the Verizon website to see the settings for Backup Assistant.  Maybe an inadvertant click in a previous visit...?  Who knows, but that's where I'd start to make sure that on the Verizon side, it's not trying to backup your data.

Bummer.... don't want to root. Hopefully this will be updated soon. I don't know why JB took ability to turn off the one you could disable in ics away.

Verizon pushes their services very hard. I think they did this to push BUA. I personally hate BUA. I know people that use it and really love it, but with Android, you just don't need it and I have seen it fail for some. I am just not a fan of Verizon services.

I concur, very annoying! I can understand installing it on our phones but not allowing us to uninstall or disable is completely bogus. Especially now if you are paying full retail for your phone if you are trying to hang on to your unlimited data. Arg, I could go on this rant for days. Oh well, I am at least glad there are solutions.

What solution is there? I see no solution that will work. I don't want to root just to get rid of this. Maybe a task killer app would continue to kill it or stop it from loading. I guess that is something that could be tried. I have never been in favor of task killers, but Verizon isn't leaving us much choice here.
