Droid Razr Maxx wifi and alarm clock problems

2014-07-03, 5:09 AM

We have 2 Droid Razr Maxx phones.  Both have a problem under the current software version.  Once wifi is turned on, CPU usage shoots way up, often staying up even after wifi is turned back off.  Eventually the phone is so bogged down that you need to reboot.

2nd problem only affects one phone.  When an alarm is set, you get a notification in the status bar towards the right side.  Starts out fine, but sooner or later that notification disappears.  If you go into Clock, Add Alarm shows like you have nothing set, yet when you go in, the alarm is clearly still set.  I tried removing the CPU usage tool, no avail.  I'm thinking it could also be a battery percentage readout (to 1%) that I use, but as I recall I tried removing that too.

Any thoughts or better yet bug fixes would be greatly appreciated!  I tried reporting these to Motorola but support quickly lost interest.

Have you tried running the phone in Safe Mode. Would try this for several hours at least to see if it remedies the situation. This will boot the phone up minus any applications you have added. Many time applications can cause issues like you are experiencing.

You can also try clearing the cache through the recovery menu.

If none of this helps - hopefully someone else will have other suggestions.

Should note that Safe Mode will not remove any of your applications, they just will not appear in Safe Mode. Once you reboot back to normal, everything should be as it was before entering safe mode. Just a good way to find out if an aftermarket app is causing the issue.

Clearing the cache had no effect. Booting in safe mode had odd results.
Weatherbug's widget, for instance, was disabled. Tapping on my Solitaire
game led to an instant reboot - a rather rude surprise since I'd have
expected it to be blocked, not for it to cause a reboot. But even if safe
mode was ok, it wouldn't tell me what specific app, if indeed there is one,
that causes the alarm clock indicator to go away. As to the wifi problem,
this happens on 2 identical phones that are used rather differently most of
the time. And it didn't happen until the most recent updates, at least as
far as I could tell.
